Y 4 CLASS HISTORY In the summer of 1950 twenty four eager students entered Belwood High School Th1s we had looked forward to for a long t1me because we thought we would do as we pleased We soon fotmd out there had to be a change so we settled down to work w1th the help of our k1nd teacher, Mrs Cablness and others Wlth our f1rst play and only a few part1es we made our freshmen year an enjoyable one Th1s year we lost two members, Artle Mae Cooke and Walter Gantt who dlscontmued school work An1ta Norman left us m the earller part of that year but returned before the year was completed W1th one year passed and our shyness qu1ck1y van1sh1ng we became sophomores, w1th Mr Hoover as our homeroom teacher Th1s year our outs1de aCtlV1t16S were a l1ttle more numerous We framed one member that year, Dor1s Hamby but suffered the loss of three, Johnny Walker and Fred Spurlmg who dlscontxnued school work and Sue Hoyle left us for another school Agaln Amta Norman left us but returned before the year was completed Our Jun1or year seemed to be the most exc1t1ng one yet We knew there would be l1ttle t1me for act1v1t1es th1s year as most of our tlme and effort was put forth on the class play Our Gal Sal wh1ch was very sat1sfactory Of course there was another attractlon commg up our Jun1or Sen1or Banquet at wh1ch we were to be hosts All thxs was done under the gu1d1ng hand of Mrs Callahan, our homeroom teacher Mae Fredell and Fred we were back to twenty four As we begm and f1n1sh th1s our last and f1nal year, under the guldance of Mr Hallman, we feel that we are a group of twenty four d1gn1f1ed semors, not separate but a group for some of us feel l1ke we are brothers and slsters slnce we have made twelve years of pro gress together We, the Sen1or Class of 1954 are deeply grateful to our pr1nc1pal, Mr Hoover and the teachers Mr Hallman,Mr Warlxck Mrs Cabmess and Mrs Callahan for the help re cexved from them durxng our four years of h1gh school H1stor1an Dor1s Sa1n CLASS POEM Black and Whxte School hfe! So with a gain and a loss this year, CLASS PROPHECY For many hundreds of years It has been the accepted herltage of the gypsy to possess the remarkable power of foretelling the future Recentlyl had the good fortune of encounterlng such a person Her name was Madame Belwoodxa, and when I explained that I had been elected the Senxor Class Pro phet of Belwood Hlgh School, her eyes gl1stened wlth ant1c1pat1on She accepted my S1 00 offerlng and here IS the story she told The year 1S 1974 the season is wlnter In a large offlce bu1ld1ng in Washington, D C I-l1lda W11l1S is a pr1vate secretary to a Senator from North Carollna Three stor1es below her, Mary Beth Dell1nger 1S employed as a f1le clerk for a very prom1nent legal f1rm Movlng over to the alrport a large s1lver plane has just landed and Dor1s Sam 1n the blue umform of a1rl1ne hostess, is asslstmg the passengers as they leave the plane One of the passengers IS Don Yarboro who has just completed h1s latest novel and lS vacat1on1ng at the Nat1on's Cap1tol H1s secretary Amta Norman, is now 1n charge of h1s executxve offlce 1n Charlotte North Carolina An outstandmg feature of th1s modern bu1ld1ng is the un1que beauty Saloon and barber shop located on the f1rst floor and operated Jomtly by Mable Randall and Fred Benton At the large sw1tchboard on the second floor Dor1s Hunt, Ann1e Sue Will1s and Mae Fredell are bus1ly engaged 1n the art of answermg phones and placlng long dzstance calls In another part of the bu1ld1ng Edxth Tallant and Jera1d1ne Ledford are hurrxedly preparmg for the noon rush at the1r soda fountam and sandwlch shop It IS rumored that they are plannlng to open a branch restaurant 1n Shelby And speaklng of Shelby Glen McCurry has just opened h1s new garage and dlrectly across the street Franklm Buff IS operat1ngh1s new service station Wlth tremendous success Across tovsm, Donald Earwood IS now work1ng 1n h1s own rad1o rapalr shop In the Shelby Hospltal Frances Peeler and Dor1sHamby are employed 1n the Nurslng Profess1on One of the Med1cal Doctors at the hosp1tal lS the now famous J B Smith At the h1gh school Mary Jane Seagle IS now teachlng math and Dor1s Earwood lS 1n structlng her physical educat1on class 1n the art of basketball J o Ellen Lutz IS now employed as SOC1ety editor of the local newspaper Peggy Rlchards IS employed at the Hudson HOSICPY and It IS rumored that weddmg bells w1ll rlng for her 1n the near future Frances Dav1s plans to leave for Washlngton 1n one week to contlnue her career asac1v1l serv1ce worker Nor1s Sam, now a famous rumors that he w1ll campaign for the United States Senate 1n the next electlon And w1th that f1nal statement the SYPSY lady pol1tely ushered me out into the crowd and the intervlew was over Prophet Jo Ellen Lutz 'Lxl vs ll, V9 ll H N X527 X criminal lawyer, plans to fly to Richmond, Virginia for a meeting.
