Spirited Bucs lack offensive punch Although the bleachers are empty and the play- ers gone, there remains an intangible spirit that moves us to remember those great days of stam- peding feet, roaring crowds, and tense excitement. Football is a tough game, and though we are no longer a part of the noise and confusion under the floodlights, we can still vividly recall the memories of the rugged 1968 season. As usual, practice began in August. After work- ing steadily for several weeks in the hot weather, our team began to develop into a unit of 49 hard- working boys. Led by the strong coaching of Mike Morris, Ralph McKenna, Fred von der Linden, and Dick Healy, the Bucs anticipated a great year. How- ever, something turned sour, and the season was ended with a mediocre 2-7 mark. The opening game found us eagerly looking for our first football win against Marion of Woodstock,

On a squad as large as the football team, there are some players who earn more recognition than the others. Through the rough practices and games, they distinguished themselves by their abilities on the field. Though all of them couldn't be recognized, there are two who represent the rest of the squad by the players' own vote. This year they are Tim McMahon, as captain, and Larry Hyser, Most Valuable Player and all-conference. We hope that all future athletes will be as dedicated as these two. Schwartz looks for a fast way out.
