STUDENT LIBRARIANS Using pupil assistants in a school library had its origin in the need for help in extending library service. It has continued because the students them- selves find satisfaction in the services they render. The student who works in the library is there be- cause he wants to be there, and has proved that he is willing to strive to perform the tasks assigned him. The work that he does means a great deal to him as well as to the school. 48 X His service to the library is designed to increase its effectiveness without expecting him to do the tech- nical duties which require training and experience be- YOUCI hiS CHD-HCity. He is not, therefore, a trained librarian and cannotperform theprofessional services expected of a faculty librarian, He is, however, 3 valuable and indispensable assistant who strives to Promote co-operative attitudes between the faculty librarian and the students.
