SENIOR CLASS HISTORY Twenty six shy little first graders started their school tra1n1ng in the old red brick school on the hill A large number of teachers taught us through the first few grades with Mrs Sperry 1n the first Rosemary McCoy and Ann Keaster in the second and Mrs Stewart in the third and fourth In the fifth grade we were busily taklng achieve ment tests when a fire interrupted and we moved to the old h1gh school Everything was tirned perfectly but lt seems someone saved the tests We part1c1pated in Christmas plays, school parties baseball series put out a school paper called the Belt Beacon, and kept the Comets glory high um our last few years of grade school As seventh graders we entered the new school which was some thing of a bright light in our lives Mrs Gillette Miss Klimas and Mr Simpson were our Junior high teachers In the eighth grade we took a trip to Monarch on a fossil hunt and another trip to Kleffners for a big picnic Our number was still the same when we entered BVHS as shy and not too bright freshmen The f1rst party we gave in high school was a return party for the seniors which we called a barn dance The freshman class officers were president, Jerry Stober v1ce president, Joe Hueth secretary Betty King treasurer Roberta Mee and student council representatives Carol Kleffner and Curt Falls As sophomores we were the first class to get dr1ver's training The sophomore class officers were president Janet Berg v1ce pres1dent Jo Frele secretary Connie Jacobson treasurer Curt Falls and student council representatlves were Jacquie Koontz and Joe Hueth Mrs Peterson served as sponsor of a dwindling Junior class that entered high school appeal of marriage There were eight people who married out of our class along with the ones who transferred to other schools This year we used a pink and black theme for our prom We picked up tumbleweeds and dyed them pink to hang on the ceiling and we had Joe Hueth as president leading the grand march Jack Maberry, vice president Jacquie Koontz, treasurer Carol Kleffner secretary and Marvm Koskela and Phyllis Johnson as student council representatlves The class of '56 entered its last year with 15 members the smallest class to gradu ate in about 50 years Mrs Stober served as sponsor through 1n1t1at1on act1v1t1es sneak day and fund raising projects Officers serving the class this year were president Dave Paulsrud v1ce president Phyllis Johnson treasurer, Jacquie Koontz secretary Roberta Mee and student council representatlves, Joe Hueth and Carol Kleffner Many honors came to members of the sen1or class during their four year 1n high school Aside from many offices held m school organizations, Phyllis Johnson edited the school paper Jacquie Koontz was editor of the annual and was cheerleader her Junior and senior years Carol Kleffner and Jerry Stober were delegated to Gu-ls and Boys State with Phyllis Johnson and Marvm Koskela as alternates Jerry and Marvin attended the Northwest Music Educators Conference m Eugene as Juniors, Carol Kleffner was a delegate to JRC camp 1n Kalispell Jacquie Koontz was valedictorian and Marvin Koskela, salutatorian The class produced the comedy fantasy Green Valley' the story of a fantastxc land where everything reaches a gigantic size Our work on the Husky Herald paper and annual brought us many headaches and laughs Baccalaureate and the Senior Banquet came on May 20, followed by the long awaited Commencement Exerc1s es on May Z3 We ended our school days in Belt Valley High School with 6 members left from the original first grade class Jo Frele, Janet Berg, Phyll1s Johnson, Jerry Stober, Jim Miles, and Fred Rubino ll . . . . , , , . . . . . , . , ll ' ' - n n .n n u , . - . . . , , . . . . . , . i D . . 3 .
