BELT BUCKLE SOPI-IOMORE HISTORY The green covered wagon of '30 started on its progressive and untiring journey on a stormy looking morning of September, 1926. Little did We dream of the Wars We would have with the tribes of Equations, Clauses, Phrases, The Hydrochlorics, etc. The first Week was spent trying to get along peacefully With all these tribes. By the end of the Week We were pretty well acquainted with them, and very well acquainted with the chiefs, Chick, Skarty, Ryan, and Mac, Our captain, Hansen, tried to keep us altogether and peaceful. At the end of the second week we came upon a settlement of Sopho- mores, Juniors, and Seniors. They gave us a grand welcome by initiating us. They used Indian war paint to bring out our greenness, and played many good jokes on us. It was a Wonderful success for them, and we all felt that from this We had learned the Ways of the pioneer and could go on as one hundred per cent travelers. Toward the end of the first year's journey, the weather and hard usage had taken off nearly all of the green paint and it was beginning to look more like the wagons of '27, '28 and '29, The first year of our journey was a great success. In June when we received records of it we were proud of ourselves. The sixth of September, 1927, We started again on another lapse of our journey. We were confident that this would be more successful than the last year's journey, because We were now accustomed to the ways of the other travelers and we had just come to the close of a most wonderful three months' rest. Our second year has not quite ended but already we are beginning to feel the results of our success. The destination of our Wagon will be-we know not. Some started for gold, some for adventure, but as a whole we started to find and develop the best that is in us. -Ruth Wilson. DEVELOPMENT I often dream of pioneers of old Who settled in a place out of the way. Because of them we live in peace to-day In a country which is Worth its Weight in gold. It was a country of hardy men so bold, Of men of greatness Without feet of clay Of men, tho wild, did not forget to pray A prayer to God, A prayer for more than gold. As asked, this state was bettered much by time Its rivers now making commerce possible Its plains now glisten with the gold of grain Its prosperity is great and rich and fine A great and lasting future is now able As great and better development comes with time. -Raymond Kennedy. ft '1928 'tt 'err fr tere my-MTM lh t I
