This year marks the fourth successful year of the Student Council hich was organized in 1954 under the leadership of Mr. S. J. Lightfritz. Student Council meetings were held by-monthly on Tuesdays. Each representative was required to bethere unless excused by the President or absent from school. Many problems and questions arose during the year and the council tried to solve and answer them to the best of its ability. The various committees of the Student Council were a great aid and deserve congrat- ulations upon their fine work and cooperation. Each committee is made up of four students and one faculty advisor. The student chairmen were either Council re- presentatives of this year or a previous year. ' The officers for this year were: Kathryn Gilbert, president3Mildred Ford, vice-presidentgBert Hendricks, secretary, The following are the representatives for theyear from'each class: 12th grade, Kathryn Gilbert, Mildred Ford, and Earl Samsgllth grade, Bruce Chambers and Bert Hendricksg lOth grade, Irma Berry and Robert Doman39th grade, Carolyn Reese and Dolores Smith, Sth grade, Ray Pennybacher and Dewey Amosg 7th grade, Nancy Reese and Robert Webb. Faculty members, Mr. Lightfritz, Mr. Kir- ocofe, Miss Allen, and Miss Snyder. The Grounds Committee improved the campus byerec- ting traffic signs in the parking space in front of the school building. ' The Monitor System, under, the direction of the Building Committee, has been very successful this year for it has provided for order in the corridorsand less confusion at noon. The Assembly Committee has provided for a number of interesting and educational assembly programs. The Publishing Committee has worked harder than any other committee, perhaps, by publishing the first school paper for many years. This monthly issue, the ARGUS, sold for two cents a copyfand the proceeds were approximately 35520 in alll. The 1959 issue ofthe BELHIC has required cooperation and hard work fromevery staff member. The Student Council sent Representatives to two out of three of the new Co-Government Associations which was formed only this year. There were no dele- gates from Belpre at the first meeting which was held at Parkersburg. Those who attended the second meeting at Elizabeth were: Kathryn Gilbert, Bruce Chambers, Dean Tippens, Robert Doman, and Mr. Kiracofe. Officers and a name for the Association were decided at this meeting on February 9, l959. The next meeting waskwld at Walton and many more schools were represented, proe vihg that the Student Council plan of school govern- ment can be and is very successful. This meeting was on April 20, 1959, and those who attended from Belpre Student Council were: Dottie Bailey, Irma Berry, Deane Tippens, Bruce Chambers,Robert Doman, and Mr. Kiracofe. slCH+LORS' CLUB W The Bachelors' Club, a long standing extra cur4 riculnr activity, was organized again this year un- der the expert leadership of Miss Yoss, New officers were electedu They were: Kflm lgliirlfefonooonQuoooooacoooooocepresident Donald Cornes...............Vice Presiinrt Joe Perks.... ......... BIOLOGY CLUB The Biology Club, a new club that was' formed late this year seems to be among the more progres- sive ones. In four short weeks it had formed, elec- ted officers, and planned programs, hikes, and other a ctivities to be carried out. The star class is the highest class we have at present. Troop 15 has had several sponsors and leaders but all the time the old troop has held its place a mong the troops in this section. The boys have a meeting every Tuesday evening from 7:50 to 9:00. Dues are onlyten cents a month and the boys areproud of the fact that most of their equipment has been bought with money that they earned by working at odd lobe. Their equipment is valued at approximately WSOOQOO, ' Last fall four 05 the boys, Pernas Barrickman, Elmer Holstein, Warren Stone, and Frederick Peyet,re- presented troop 15 at the Ohio State Fair atColumbus They put on a Merit Badge Show that won second place thus adding another notable accomplishment to a long list of achievements. The troop has recently comple- ted the Old Trails Round up program and has won a certificate for their good work. During Scout Week, February 8 through the l5th,Troop 15 won first place with their window display at Millerfs store inBelpre On February 9, the troop gave a special assembly at the high school auditorium which consisted of demon- strations and talks that gave the student a very good idea of scout work. This troop has won the camping award at Camp Kootoga for the past several years, and Mr. PaulH n- kel, former scout executive, has said that troop 15 has the best campers and the best equipment in the Kootoga area, During the summer months the troop will partic- ipate in the Memorial Day program with legionaires. During the first week of June, they will attend the camp on Hughes River in West Virginia and for a week in the later part of July, they will again attend camp Kootoga. Troop 15 has made rapid progress during the few years it has been functioning, We hope it will cont- inue to advance and that in the future,it will prove to be even a greater asset to our oommunitye UAL Je in Q .,,.
