ID Id Wellcoime§ Juifelba Jutta Kopp came to the United States from Freiburg, Germany to be the 1976-77 American Field Service student at Beloit Junior Senior High. Her home for the year was with Lynn Newcomer family. Lynn is an instructor at the Youth Center of Beloit and his wife Bonnie is a homemaker and former BHS teacher. The Newcomers' have two children, John and Meredith, who was bom during Jutta's stay. ' 'When 1 applied to become an AFS student, 1 wanted to come to the U.S. Jutta commented. She first found out about the exchange program when one of her friends applied. Jutta contacted the teacher in charge and recieved an application. Out of the 30 applicants, Jutta and 19 others were selected. Jutta's choices of countries included the U.S. Europe and Russia. Jutta was fairly well acquainted with the our country through films she saw at school. Being isolated is one of her dislikes about the U.S. She feels we miss out on getting to know about other countries, unlike Europe, where the countries learn to live in harmony with each other. Jutta has parents, Wolfgang and Gisela, and two brothers, Martin and Sebastin, awaiting her return to Germany. Jutta cites several differences in lifestyles between the two countries. Teens in Germany can't drive until they're 18 instead of age 16 as in the U.S. She was impressed by the fact that in the U.S. friends have more of a chance to get together especially in large group gatherings. She feels attitudes are more carefree and attributes it to the political system. Emotions are also shown more freely here than in Germany. Jutta was very involved in activities during her stay. Being fond of Music, she participated in girls ensembles for League and State Music Contests, she sang with the BHS Singers, and was a dancer in the Fall Production of ' 'Oklahoma.'' Clubs Jutta belonged to included Future Medical Careers, Student Council, AFS, Pep Club, Y-Teens and Art and Photo Club. Jutta was Honorary Queen for the Springs Sports Homecoming Festivities. When Jutta returns to Germany in June, she will have two more years of High School. She then plans on going to college and studying medicine. I thought my visit was worthwhile and 1 really have enjoyed being here,1' commented Jutta. Jutta was named Honorary Queen at the Spring Sports Homecoming Festivities. The Lynn Newcomers' were Jutta's American family during her stay in the U.S. Family members include John (on tricycle), Bonnie, Meredith (on Bonnie's lap), Lynn and Jutta.
