Mr. E. M. Chestnut came to Beloit In 1930 to become the High School principal. In 1958, he assumed the job as superintendent and remained in that position until 1964 when he retired. Ten years later he died on April 17, 1974. While principal, he established the annual Beloit Relays and was well known as a referee of high school athletic events in North Central Kansas. Mr. Chestnut has made many outstanding contributions to interschool activities and was honored by being inducted into the Kansas High School Activities Association Hall of Fame on March 20, 1976.
