The BHS orchestra, directed by Cleo Riley, practiced faithfully from September until May to provide music for special events . They provided music for both the class plays, played in the Spring Music Concertg and played the traditional graduation marches. At the District Music Festival they received a I rating, of this group the String Trio received a I rating, Marianne MaXWell's cello rated a I, Margaret Loades and Marilyn Riley each received II ratings on their violin solos, Beth Hansen's cello solo received a II, and the String Ensemble received a II. The mixed chorus and orchestra end the Spring Concert with the Battle Hymn of the Republic. C!-IOIZUQ VOOALIZEQ FOP: NMENTAND ENJOYMENT Music groups at BHS had an active and successful year. At the District Contest the chorus groups received the following ratings: Mixed Chorus II, Girls Glee Club II, Mixed Ensemble I, Double Sextet I and Triple Trio II. The individual ratings were Judy North I, Carolyn Pohlhammer I, Linda Hartman II, Kathy Pohlhammer II, Phyllis Remley II and Linda Chapman III. The State ratings received were Double Sextet I, Mixed Ensemble I and Carolyn Pohlhammer I. The chorus presented the traditional Christmas program, Easter program and the Spring Concert. I. North, L. Chapman, C. Pohlhammer, K. Miss Elsie Gaston choral instructor. Pohlhammer, L. Hartman, and P. Remley took solos to District Music Festival. C. Pohlhammer received a I and J. North a II at State. 30
