Chestnut QLEFT ABOVEJ receives a copy of the school budget---and all other super- visory duties---in stride because he has been in no small way well acquainted with Beloit's school problems for twenty-eight years. E.M. , as he is familiarly addressed, has'been the hub of all school activities, and the progenitor of many. He initiated the Beloit Relays in 1941 and has successfully managed and conducted them since. He has been responsible for the development of Trojan Field, Athletic competitions of various types, and many other intra -school activities. Mr. Chestnut is a member of the Board of Di- rectors of the Kansas State Teachers Association and a life member of the N.E,A. QUPEPJINTENDENT Mrs. Martha Helmbrecht assists with absences--and all other matters in the principal's office. Superintendent John S. Morrell hands Superintendent- Elect E.M. Chestnut a copy of the school budget upon his retirement from the Beloit City Schools after serving thirty-seven years as teacher, principal, and superintendent. His chief concerns have been the betterment of the school's curriculum, tenure of teachers, build- ing facilities, and the school budget. The new Ele- mentary School Building constructed for use in 1956, thus combining the Rogers and Field Building elementary grades, was Mr. Morre11's crowning achievement. Mr. Cly e Lampert, Treasurer, First National Bank. is not in the picture. Mrs. Betty Vetter, secretary to superintendent Morrell doubles as clerk of the Board of Educa- tion, handles matters by telephone for three 4 school buildings, and pays the teachers.
