Giddings Above is a scene pictured in the third Act: K, Reiter, M. Smith, P. Moran, B. Welker, B. Heller. That night after the final tryout was a sleepless one for many of us Would-be- actors. However, the next day when our names were posted as cast members, our happiness was complete, because we were unaware that our worries had only begun. Of course, none of us would have traded jobs with anyone in the world, but we really had to work. All of us learned that acting is only one part of producing a play. We built a complete set and painted it, we used all kinds of light-costume committeesg make- up committees, special committeesg for publicity, stage props, and programsg and even these do not include all of the details which are so necessary for a good perfor- mance. Sometimes, after an especially long night of rehearsals, one which might in- clude going over one scene as many as eight or ten times, we were so exhausted, we could hardly move. But there's some- thing you can't explain, that no one even noticed or complained. And on opening night, when the direct- ors gave us the huge box of shiny, red apples, tokens of good luck, and told us they had enough confidence in us to watch the whole per ormance from the audience, we realized that a few such rehearsal nights were worth this one breathless moment. And I know that every junior who con- tributed in any way to the success of Seventeenth Summer felt duly rewarded when the final burst of applause reached his ears. . --Kay Reiter
