FORM HIST ORE Vyrth thrs hrstory of our Form we hope to keep vrvrdly alrve all the fond recol lectrons of our many years spent at Belmont Hrll The hrstorv of our Form ofhcrally began rn the year 1936 when Drck ones entered the Iower School ultrmately to become the lone member of that orrgrnal Class A that strll remarns From all that Drck tells us about that frrst vear we gather that rt was a slrghtlv unhappy one for hrm at least Hrs only clear memorres are of the brg boys rn Class D who used constantly to bully h1m av Angevrne Ieddy Read and ohn Hurd rorned poor lrttle Drck the followrng vear It was rn Llass B that the famous trrumvrrate of ingevrne, Harry and Hurd garned exclusrve control of the honor lrst week rn and week out Art classes were transferred from the cellar of the cottage whrch rs now Mr Densmore s house to the art room rn the new Speare House burldmg That was the year that the my sterr ous plague of measles and chrckenpox occurred just before the operetta These old trmers also remember the hre rn the swamp that accordrng to the newspaper reports nearly destroyed the Ifreld House Ihe next year Bob Bacon rorned the Form whrch was now Class L lohnny Mar no and Drck Swan both entered from a drfferent class and made promrnent addrtrons to the class Upon our arrrval rn the fall of that year we were thrrlled by the devastatron caused bv the hurrrcane The overturned Morse garage was the most excrtrng srght that met our eyes The pleasant outdoor classes, the play squad the trrps through factorres and the numerous fads of voyos peashooters, and marbles also are to be remembered from that year In 1939 Benny Crouch ohnny lfraser Ken Maclean and Hermann Ruden berg came to Class D Ihrs was the year that Mr Densmore assumed the drrectron of the Lower School and rt must be adrnrtted that we weren t exactly as co operatrve w1th hrm as could be expected These eleven boys who survrved those Lower School days strll remember the struggles between the Reds and the Blues the hrlarrous scrence classes wrth Sprke Downes the splendrd gnl chorus they made rn the school plav, the fear some mathematrcs classes wrth old Bull -Xlexander ohnnv Marno s masterful por tray al or Padda the seal rn the Lhrrstmas play that year the fun we used to have rn Mr Sawver s Hrst perrod I atm class and many other lrttle rncrdents such as the break rng of the I square by Mr Moffatt on Parker Thomas s unfortunate posterror The transrtron to the Upper School was an rmportant and thrrllrng one to the class The majorrtv took full advantage of the new freedom The addrtron of ack Blodgett that year brought another leader to the Form Memorres of French classes wrth 'I ogee Staples and the barrage of erasers clrrected at the less resourceful members of Mr Alexander s I11'1Il'! Class were formed rn our voung mrnds The fear of cofhnrfa tron domrnated many of our actrons that year Many of us were unfortunate enough to fall vrctrm to a fast sales talk by a representatrve ofa rnusrcal rnstrument concern who under the pretense of arousrng rnterest rn a school band made a small fortune for hrm self Needless to say this musrcal enthusrasm was short lrved That year also meals were no longer served rn luxury for we boys were forced to wart on tables Fl hat sprrng several members of the faculty were seen one Sunday afternoon peerrng out from behrnd trees and shootrng 'lt each other It took several weeks for these masters to convrnce the school that they were not rn therr second chrldhood but srmplv takrng part rn State Guard maneuvers Ile also vrvrdly remember how old Buck enney could place baseballs almost rn the lagoon from the cage held wheney er the VK rldcats needed an extra run or two VVoody Allen and Bob French rorned the class rn the 'lhrrd Form year Vle remember that year especrallv well because rt was not onlv the year that the Unrted ,. . , . , , , , ' r .
