I K Science Science: the how and why of all that we survey, to satisfy our young and curious minds, to give us a clear and accurate under- standing of our world, to instill in our minds and hearts the desire to know the unknown, to explain the complicated, and to discover the yet undisclosed facts about our universe are the basic reasons that we study science. In a biology class we learn the beauty of life through an understanding of life's pro- cesses, cycles, and characteristics. In chemistry we grasp the concept of how every constituent of our universe, no matter how large or how small, is constructed. In physics we come to know the basic pat- terns and laws of which many of the forces and bodies in our universe conform. Through able science instructors we learn to understand and to love the unique and in- finite beauty of our universe. 23 X . Such basic courses as algebra and business math are both prerequisite to higher mathemat- ics courses and helpful in solving practical pro- blems. Geometry, also a prerequisite to higher mathematics, is a necessary course for anyone who plans aliberal education. Trigonometry and advanced math, studied the senior year, are pre- requisites for the future college student. With such a capable mathematics depart ment at B.S.H.S., we will undoubtedly be well prepared for the complicated world of tomorrow. 22
