W. B. CONDIT William Condit 1 4 il .J -1 6 i138-l3ril1 ilJi:llS In September, 1923, with a student body of five hundred and seventy-five composed entirely of ninth and tenth grade students, Belmont High School had its beginning, Early in the semes- ter a contest was held with a prize offered to the student suggesting the name which would be selected for the school paper that was about to be pub- lished. The Sentineln was the name selected and in November of 1923 the first copy made its appearance. During the following mont its columns car- ried a story of how green and black had been selected as the official school colors. Four years later, in 1927, Belmont received the highest accreditation pos- sible scholastically from the University of California, which it has maintained to the present day. The motto from the beginning has been Enter to Learn, Go Forth to Serve. Following this admonition its graduates have gone forth to serve and have dis- tinguished themselves in many lines of endeavor. w xiii- -i. I 2 X i f f 001 565 V It is the striving for perfection, not its attainment, which makes us better and stronger individuals. Likewise, the striv- ing for a perfect school will make Belmont High School better and stronger. justifi- able pride in the traditions and honorable record of many students is the heritage of all Hill-Toppers. The faculg' and adminis- tration share this pride. I nd a personal happiness in being a part of this excellent school where democracy is lived each day in each classroom hour. PAULINE MATHER SXVAIN.
