Trimming the cartoon. ‘Maybe I can draw a straight line with a ruler?” Ed prepares for illustrating. Jane’s acrylic trees. Balance plus proportion plus repetition plus transition equals a decent painting. First, use the finder to “arrange forms in space” and be sure to employ “overlapping line”- it’s the first principle of composition. Try some acrylics with a palette knife or that conte crayon. Don’t forget what chiaroscuro is or how to make a tertiary color. Remember the Bauhaus and that film you saw on nature that reviewed the art principles. Definitely don’t despair if, when you’re in a hurry to clean up, the sink gets plugged up. Grin and bear the few rewards of posing for those protraits made with pastels. Then you’ll know how to apply “skill and taste to the production of beauty.” Vag applies a wash to his cartoon. 25

Mr. John W. Allen Music; Band; Stage Band “I didn’t compose THAT one!” Music Mr. Howard A. Nettleton Director of Music; Singing Debs; Glee Club Mr. Dominic J. Amoruso Music; Band “Never double or omit the third!” is an order in music class. The student should know how to harmonize a melody, so that if he is given a bass note he can add a melody and some harmony. To the true music-lover belongs the extraordinary talent of being able to make sense out of the conglomeration of notes, intervals, and triads that he finds sprinkled across the staff. Of course there’s a quick answer when the Master of Perfect Pitch asks, “What note am I playing, Josh?” And why not wind up class with a discussion of how much money one can make as a musician?— “Symphony men can also get $10 for a lesson!” 26
