Fashion and design is more than sewing on buttons; it is the whole world of design and clothing, right from choosing the right material and pattern to the making and wearing of it. “An original design and an original baby dress are two of your large projects this year.” “This material is scratchy and coarse; of course, it’s muslin not silk.” The sewing machine first seemed ominous to me, too, but just wait till you start using the bias binder or the button hole maker. Learning to match a plaid, or gathering a skirt all come in handy, for sewing is something that everybody needs. Can I borrow your scissors? Miriam joins in working on her original design.
