Mrs. Isabelle L. Lord French; Senior French Club “The rules of this course are intended to organize your acquired intuitions about Russian.” First: the Russian definition of hooliganism; then little symbolic pictures. “Why transcribe when I already know the Russian alpha- bet?” Ja ne’ znaou. “Ritual 4?” Konecno n’et! Mr. Martellucci does some personal studying. Latin class is always enjoyable, whether you are wishing Caesar to walk onto a tree, whether you are trying to figure out why Cicero wrote so many pages to say he hated Catiline, or if you are exploring the labors of Aeneas. Though students may cringe at the thought of the grammar of Baker and Englis, Latin syntax teaches a good discipline for language study. Miss Patricia Keating Vercingetorix went that-a-way. Latin; Latin Club 13 Miss Nancy J. Weingarten Russian; French; Russian Club; Folk Workshop; Photography Club; Student Handbook Mrs. Frances Riel EngUsh and Latin; Latin Club Miss Jeralyn Needel French; Spanish; Senior French Club

Mr. Michael P. Quercio Foreign Language Co-ordinator; French French courses can be long struggles through the Conditional Perfect and attempts to “faire des progress” with impossible idioms. But having accomplished this the student can then enjoy “le role du comique chez Moliere” and ponder “I’angoisse du poete”. Mr. Richard M. Penta Foreign Language Dept. Chairman; German; German Club Aside from the normal topics of a German course, students are likely to discuss anything from the reign of Karl der Grosse to the love life of Anna Ulmer and Rudi Wolf. They learn how to portray a parrot as they mimic the conversational patterns. Then comes the graduation to minor birds as they memorize the bible by Cochran. Languages Spanish class offers a study of the literature as well as the rudiments and specifics of the Spanish language. The passages for translation give vivid insight into Spanish cul- ture as well as traditions and customs. Bull fights are the most popular. These things, consequently, allow the stu- dent to appreciate the language as being more than Just drills and dialogues. Italian students learn the language first through conversations and drills. Later, after strengthening their vo- cabulary, they begin to read letters which describe things, such as Italian soccer games. Throughout their studies, lec- tures provide information on Italian customs and way of life. Mrs. Venezia A. Mezzacappa French Mr. Arthur J. Martellucci Spanish; Spanish Club; Highpoint 12 Mr. Frank X. Veneri ItaUan and Spanish; Italian Club
