PTOPIICCQI HOTEL Rrrz PLAZA Bermuda May ZZ 1972 Dearest W1lma Charlene At last I ve found t1me to wr1te th1s long delayed letter I m on a two years vacat1on durmg wh1ch I ve looked up my old classmates My tour started 1n N Y C and whom do you thmk I saw play1ng for the Yankees '7 None other than BOB ORRISON who has pxtched the past n1ne seasons w1thout a loss Then I traveled across to Brooklyn to see the Dodgers and there I saw that world famous home run h1tter LEFTY MILHOAN h1t h1s 99th for th1s year S1nce I couldn t stay too long 1n one place I started for the Cap1tol Cxty There I ran 1nto Parker of PARKER MCKEEN and RIEMENSCHNEIDER PRIVATE INVESTIGATORS The1r fxrm 1S hot on the traxl of a Russ1an spy r1ng who IS tryxng to get the formula for Bubble Gum Wayne told me to stop by the1r offxce and see h1s secretary and w1fe the former BETTY ORRISON of Belmont BETTY doesn t trust another woman to look after W D s busxness so she IS h1s secretary Not a bad 1dea Wayne told me where the1r Off1C9 was and as lt was qulte a d1stance I hxred a tax1 The dr1ver was my old pal ED BLON He told me to be sure to stop at the Cap1tol Theater that n1ght because DASHING DEAN KNAPP AND HIS DANCING DOLLIES were havxng a one n1ght stand before takmg off for Ind1a H15 star dancer IS NANCY JEAN HALL I hearhe1smak1ngm1ll1onsw1tl'1her began gettmg rather cold 1n Washmgton so we started for Cal1forn1a Naturally the fxrst place I wanted to go to was the MGM Stud1o 1n Hollywood to see that handsome SAM BURKHART He has grown a mustache and IS takzng Clark Gable s place SIHCC Clark passed away Everyone th1nks SAM 15 an even greater lover than Clark was He told me that DORTHA HART was on her way to Austra11a to see her husband Donn El1ason who IS makxng the Army A1r Corps h1s career One day wh1le dr1v1ng through Death Valley what do you th1nk I saw? Acres and acres of fflllt trees growmng 1n what used to be arld HERB MILLER and CHARLES YOE had Jo1ned forces to d1scover a way to ra1se fru1t trees 1n the desert They are now the world s greatest Date producers By th1s t1me my chauffeur JAKE MOTTER was quxte txred of the West Coast so we started back east by way of Texas One day a truck passed us heaV1Iy laden Wlth steers On the sxde of the truck was pa1nted DUVALL the best meat of all I remembered BILL DUVALL always l1ked farmmg so I thought perhaps th1s was h1s truck After askmg a few quest1ons xn San Anton1o I d1scovered that B111 owns nearly 5 000 acres of Texas land and 15 the b1ggest producer of beef 1n the country We made good t1me and arr1ved ln Columbus Oh1o 1n t1me to see ROYCE KINNEY maugurated as Governor He always was a great one for pol1t1cs even ID h1gh school He 1nv1ted me out to h1s newly bu1lt mans1on wh1ch was deslgned by the world famous arch1tect E C LOY We arr1ved 1n Belmont 1n t1me for the Homecom1ng Game There I saw EVELYN CAIN and BONNIE BLAKE who had just returned from a two year s stay 1n Cahforma They told me they were now hostesses on Trans World AITIIDCS and were leavmg on a round the world fhght m a few days The1r ma1n stops were to be a small 1sland 1n the South PaC1f1C and Korea Well Wxlma I ve caught up on all my classmates except you Are you st1ll head surgeon at John Hopk1ns? Have you read my latest book Memorzes of Mme? The cr1t1cs say It s even better than Gone Nxth the W1nd RKO has been try1ng to buy the mov1e rxghts for xt but they only want to gxve 5 100 O00 for xt so I don t thmk I ll sell for a wh1le Th15 IS about 311 for new 501 11C10se w1th best w1shes to you m your next appendectomy Your old classmate 13 ll ll. 1 1 . Jumors ln 1948 th1rty fxve students entered as Freshmen At the begmmng of school exght new members came from dxfferent schools In the fall we had a bake sale We presented our class play The Crazy Castles under the dlrectlon of Mrs Mltchell In May the glrls served at the .Tumor Semor Banquet In the fall of the next year thxrty three entered Durlng the fall of our Sophomore year we presented the play M1ss Smarty under the dlrectxon Mrs Mxtchell The g1rls agaln served at the .Tumor Senxor Banquet Durxng the Jun1o1 year we had a Farewell Party for Sarah Keener In the sprmg we presented the play Moonlxght and Applesauce under the dzrectlon Mxss Groves We are planmng now for the .Tumor Semor Banquet which w1l1 be held 1n May Sophomores As Freshmen twenty nlne of us entered Belmont H1gh We ga1ned f1ve new classmates when school started Martha Sulllvan Shxrley Major Donald R1emenschne1der and Harry Denms Later ln the year Chfford Shreeves from Bethesda school Joxned us We presented two plays HIS Ozark Cousln and No Brxde For The Groom under the d1rect1on of Mrs Mltchell Another event was the Junxor Sen1or Banquet The gmrls served the upperclassmen Durlng the fall of our Sophomore year we presented the play Accldental Hero under the d1rect1on of Mrs M1tchel1 The glrls agam served at the annual J.1n1or Semor Banquet Freshmen We have an average class of thlrty two students We were happy to have wlth us ten new students who came from dlfferent schools One of the mam events of the year was presentxng our first class play The MOVIES Came to Town under the dlrectlon of M1 s Mitchell The most lmportant event for the glrls was servlng at the .Tumor Semor Banquet 15 0 , - . , , I Q s tl IV ' ' D n n - 1 . r ' - 0 - an ' sv ' ' , . .
