A College or University is only as good as the people who coordinate their activities to make it a higher seat of learning. It is essential that the leader of such an institution should he as good as, if not essentially better than the rest of the human elements who join to provide the best possible education at any institution. Belmont Abbey has enlisted the services of just such an individual in the person of Father John Bradley, president of the College. He is strong and stoic in times of adversity and when change is to be implemented, it is he who organizes the fair exchange of ideas into workable compromises which benefit all of the constituents involved in college life, not simply beneficial to the one domi- nant force that governs such an institution. He is a mediator and settles disputes with a diplomacy rarely seen in such a polarized setting as Belmont Abbey. However, when there is a problem to be solved or a barrier to be surmounted. Father Bradley will act as a fierce competitor, searching for what is rightfully in the domain of the constituency he is fighting for. As an excellent soccer player at Oxford in the early fifties, he shows he has the initiative to persevere through any adverse cir- cumstances while still maintaining a cosmopolitan serenity which instills in others a profound faith in his judgement. Father John Bradley might be the beginning step in the long climb to establish Belmont Abbey College as an educational leader and innovator of worthwhile change. 19
