foreword Three quarters of a century has passed since Belmont Abbey College sent forth its firstgradu- ating class. During these seventy five years thousands of students have been molded into good citizens for their state and nation. The educa- tive process through the years has been motivated and permeated by this principle! THE TRAINING OF THE BODY, THE INFORMING OF THE MIND, THE STRENGTHENING OF THE WILL, THE DEVELOPING OF HABITS AND SKILLS AND ATTITUDES. In recognizing this anniversary of our school The Staff of the Spire wishes to re-emphasize the traditions of the past and express our hopes that there will be per- petuated and projected into the lives of those yet to come. If this volume is instrumental in re- calling old friends to the reader ' s mind, in visua- lizing for him old scenes and activities connected with his and our ALMA MATER, then our purpose will be attained and our fondest hope realized.
