Irime and punishment THE EYRIE January 28, mts speak on . . . year the cost of all ,1 activity in America d almost $1,200 for ousehold in Tennessee, ng to FBI statistics, all robberies remain d, and now with the rate up 112? in Ten- from 1969, something o be done. I favor stiffer punish- ment for small time crimi- nals, but I don't think they should throw teenagers and those guilty of misdemeanors in with hardened criminals. Yes, I favor the death sen- tence for criminals on a big time scale whose actions are severe and repetitious. --Darryl Taylor BHS togetherness needt What is the purpose of basketball games? It a that almost all sportsmanship at BHS and neighbo schools is gone. People come to ballgames and ridi the coaches, players, and referees. Does our school ever lose a ballgame because our isn't as good as-the opponents? Apparently our specta seem not to think so. It has been reported that 30% to 50% of some school students skip part, if not all day, of school. Obviously we need a system to get these students who despise school out of the school. In California a plan has been adopted to get the stu- dents out of school who don't want to be there in the first place. A test of 200 questions is given to the students 16 or 17 years old who want to drop out. If the students pass the test, they are given their high- school diploma.
