- SC HOL!-XKSHI P - For the past several years Bellpoint School has been consistently making an effort to attain high scholastic records in every field of study. This year the grade students participated in the following county events: Spelling, grades 3 to 8 inclusive, in which the 5th and 6th grades made a good record in the county. In number combinations, for grades 2 to 4 inclusive, tests were taken inaddition, subtraction, multiplication and division. Many children received awards in one, two, three, four or all four of the tests. A certificate of award is given for every Perfect score. The grades were very high, many of the results having 100 as a median. Columbus Quite a few of our grade students entered the first, second, Dispatch Penmanship Contest and received prizes for and third places. In the County Penmanship contest, we received one second place and two third places. one first place the county In the annual Penmanship contest conducted by Bellpoint ranked third in the number of certificates received in the county. First place went to Ashley and Second place to Sunbury. A certificate is given to each pupil whose handwriting measures up to a required standard for his grade. The third and fourth grade room received the most certificates in this school. Grades three to eight inclusive participated. In the eighth grade test given by the State Department of Education ltaken by fifteen students of Bellpointj we received five certificates for placing in the upper 25 per cent of the county. 228 pupils of Delaware county took the test. Those receiving certificates are: -- Calvin Cone, Anna MacMacklin, Betty Reed, Evangeline Freshwater and John Rutherford. In the General Senior Scholarship given in Delaware only the Seniors in the upper 35? of the class were eligible to enter. These were Leona Mae Van Gundy and Ora Webb. Due to illness and death in the family, Leona Mae could not go- Ora Webb made a fair showing, placing in the middle third of the county. Two students were entered for each high school subject in the Delaware County Scholarship Test. All schools in Delaware County participated. Students selected from this school and subjects taken are as follows: Ruby Stone- ----- ---- ---Algebra I James Webster-----------Latin I Joyce Lee ----- Gail Miller- ---- ------ - ---- -----Latin I --General Science

Jack Stagg ------------ ---General Science Joe Boylan-----------Plane Geometry Mary Healy---+------ -Plane Geometry Martha Moore----- ------ Latin II Adele Von Moegen------Latin II Maryalys Thomas------ Robert Thomas------ -Physics --wPhysics William Kilbury-------Biology Rose Von Moegen------ Biology XI Mary Healy------w--Engl1sh Mary Healy won second place in Delaware County in English XI and Ruby Stone first place in Algebra I. Other students, who placed high were Gail Miller in General Science, Maryalys Thomas in Physics, and Joe Boylan and Mary Healy in Plane Geometry- Delaware County entered a Scholarship team in the District State meet at Columbus. Winners of first and second place in the county meet were the ones to make up the team. Bellpoint was represented by Ruby Stone and Mary Healy. Seventeen Counties were represented in the District-State meet - two pupils from each county for each subject- Mary received sixth place and Ruby seventh place in their tests and were awarded certificates. The Delaware County team took tenth place. Word has just been received from the State Department of Education that Mary and Ruby won high places in the entire State of Ohio and will go to Columbus, Saturday May 15th to receive th8i1' 8133.158 awards. The certificates of awards received by our students from the county will be given out by Mr- Salisbury Calong with other awardsj on Recognition Day - May 19th at 10:00 A.M. in the High School Auditorium to which the public is cordially invited. We feel that we have made a good start toward high scholastic attainment and hope that Bellpoint students will in the future maintain their interest in that all-important factor of school life - SCHOLARSHIP. -26-
