-' VA.LEL'1lC'fO51Y- Today we graduates have reached the first crossroads in our scholastic career. We have finally reached the parting of the ways. We find our pathways branching here. Home will lead along apparently smooth highways, while others over rocky, briar torn trails. Many will be the obstacles we will encounter, but these will be overcome and the ultimate goal attained, if we have learned just one lesson d ring our years in school. I think the one thing which we can learn in school which is most outstanding and most beneficial to us throughout our life is '- 'Have we learned to get along with our fellowmen?n UHave we the proper consideration for others?N If we can truthfully answer these questions - WYes' - then our pathway of life will be smoother and will possess a brighter and more desirable atmosphere. To my idea, most of the trouble occuring in the world today, arises from the lack of consideration of others. The seething caldron of hate in Europe, the rebellion in Spain, our own sit-downestrikes, and also our divorce courts, are all perfect examples of individuals who never have learned this eeson. Our penal institutions are overcrowded with people who are completely ignorant of the meaning and importance of this simple courtesy. You can take any History book, and it seems that every other page is a glaring example. For instance, the horrible and unbearable rulings the Medieval Monarchs placed upon their helpless subjects. In the greatest and most noted of all books, the Bible, the pages are teeming with stories of people who oouldn't consider the feelings of others. So if we can truthfully say, UI do have proper respect for the welfare of others,ng WI will not tread someone else in the mud just for my own benefitug WI will not climb the ladder of success by tramping others in the mire.' If we can say all these, then we are ready to take our place as a peaceful citizen in this country. ' - Leona Mae Van Gundy. .20.

- SALU TATOILY - As our high school career draws to a close, it is with pleasant memories that we look back on our period of training which is our start toward happiness and citizenship. There must necessarily be regret at leaving such beloved associations but time adds age, and age adds responsibility, and we've reached the point where it is our duty to ourselves and to society to do something really constructive. We have been adequately prepared to shoulder that responsibility by our training here at Bellpoint High School. Carefully we have been taught how to do things for ourselves and to rely on our own resources. In addition to our classroom work, --school offices and activities outside the classroom have helped to give us that precious self-assurance -- the knowledge that our own ingenuity will carry us through situations which at the time look very difficult. The dawning of that realization has been skillfully nurtured and encouraged by the faculty. The desire to be useful citizens and the ability to succeed are the products of a proper education. Everything possible has been done to instill those fortunate qualities in us. To our parents we are indebted for the many sacrifices they have made, to the taxpayers of this township who each year spend a large sum of money, and to the school officials who spend many hours in an attempt to give us this solid foundation on which to begin our lives. They have done so in the belief that their efforts will be rewarded in increased happiness for ourselves, and in increased usefulness to society in general. This is in the nature of a trust, centered in us. We appreciate it deeply, and in return for their aid and confidence, we now make a promise -- that tomorrow, when it comes our time to lead, however difficult it may be to overcome our problems, we will not shirk, but will do our very best to apply to advantage the education which they have given us. Grace Prouty. .21-
