Ray: Grace: Beale: Grace: Beale: Ray: Grace: and Beale: Gladys Grace: Ray: Grace: Gladys CL!-XSS PELCJWECY- -- A Hotel Lobby in Bellpoint City in the year of 1957. Two middle aged men are lounging in the lobby. They discover to their surprise that they were schoolmates. Scene I By Jovel Ray, this is the greatest moment I have experienced for some time -- and to think you are a traveler and a lecturer. hose adventures you had in the African Jungles must have beenrthrilling. I read some in the Belle Pointer, but never did I think that the author was Ray Russell. Oh, thihgS like that seem to belong to me. I feel at home any place, as much with beast in the jungle as with men in a ho el. I guess that was the reason for making myself at home with you. It's just that roving nature you know. Look! Who is that going up to the register? Has all the ' physical features of our old classmate, Grace Prouty. fTurning abruptly when about to pen her namej Did I hear you gentlemen mention my name? Yes. Are you Grace Prouty--the Grace Prouty who went tc Bellpoint High School? Yes, I am. But you gentlemen appear to be total strangers to me. May I ask if I know you? You certainly should. We are none other than Ray Russell and Beale Fry--your old school chums. And how you have changed? More beautiful than ever. But what are you doing here? Just a correspondent for the Bellpoint Times. I am here to interview the great model, none other than Ora Webb. Havenlt you heard? Tomorrow shefs to sail for Europe. I am to interview her tonight at the Governorls Mansion. Of course we know. But we didn't know she was at the Governor's Mansion. And you know who the Governor is I suppose, Leo Billingsley. Of coursel That's why Ora is there. You two come along me and we1ll give them a surprise. with Sure. We might get some free cigars from the Governor. dc'you say, Ray? . . But first I must get my wife. Oh, there she comes the stairs now. Gladys dear, come here. You ean't guess what I have stirred up. What O K down Gladys! Well! CPuts her hand to her mouth to muffle her surprise! This must have been an act of providence fTakes both of G1ady's handsj And to think you are the wife of such a eat naturalist. ?Throwing out his chesti Oh, hem! Traveling and exploring with him surely has you looking fine. Yes, I certainly am proud of my husband. But he never could have done it without my inspiration. lRay pulls in his chest abruptly and jerks his thumbs out of his vest, -17-
