f 'F' QJORY.: The school year of 1935-36 is now at an end and our thoughts turn to the past, and the happenings within it that we have enjoyed. As usual the athletic events are the most outstanding, although this has been the most unsuccessful year ever experienced by a Bellpoint team. However this could not be helped and no alibis will be given. A squad of twelve boys answered the call of Coach William Scott for the fall baseball season. However after a few practices Mr. Scott decided that it would be unwise to play inter-scholastic games in the fall due to the small number of boys and the lack of experience. Therefore the entire fall season was devoted to practice with the exception of a game with the Junior High, in which the varsity won 7 - 2. As November neared the boys put away their baseball equip- ment and turned their attention to basketball. With a gloomy outlook and not much encouragement elsewhere, the boys began practice for the season. The team that had won two consecutive championships was gone and only two lettermen remained, the two seniors, Kilbury and Sabine. The remainder of the squad was composed of players of little experience. For a while it was feared that it would be impossible to play second team games, due to the small number of boys, but Mr. Scott drafted Ervin Foreman and Warner Firman from the eighth grade. This enlarged the squad to fourteen members and the ques- tion of reserve games was definitely settled. Of the twelve games played in the county schedule ten were lost and only two won. 364 points were scored by the opponents to 256 for Bellpoint Qthis includes only the league schedule and not the tournament games . Of these points Abe Kilbury scored 102 points, Wray Sabine 2, and Harry Foreman 27..' In the county tournament we met and were defeated by Sunbury 37-17 and by Ashley 25-22. In the dressing room after the game Mr. Scott commended the boys on their spirit shown during the year and expressed his sorrow that the season hadn't been more successful. Jessie Andrews and Leona Kay VanGundy were elected cheer leaders with Mary Healy as alternate. The girls did very well and they, with the rest of the school, gave their support which proved to be as loyal as any in the county even though with a losing team. The schedule and results are: 15 17 NOV 15, Ballpoint Berlin Jan 7, Bellpoint 40-Harlem 21 Nov 22, W Orange 45 Jan.3l, W 16 Sunbury 25 Dec 6, W Galena 17 Feb 7, W 43 Brown 22 Dec 13, N Hyatts E9 Feb 8, W 22 Cardington 37 Dec 20, W Radnor 3 Feb.ll, W 18 Powell Mo Jan 10, U Ostrander 24 Tournament W 17 Sunbury 37 Dec 21, H Delaware 34 W W 22 Ashley 25 -MM-
