Mr. Zakrzewski has been more than a great teacher, counselor and coach. He has also been a warm and cheerful friend. His work with the BFA Boosters demon- strated a sincere interest in the student body and in student activities. We have greatly enjoyed his quick wit and keen sense of humor. We have benefited very much from our associations with him. Mr. Zakrzewski will be remembered by the Class of 1976 as a teacher, counselor and coach, but most of all, as a friend. a coach an advisor hut most of all, a friend. 1 ' !!1! .l i lili llliiiiiTii: YEARBOOK STAFF Front Row, L. to R.: Robin Heuslein, Mary Spendly, Debbie Choiniere (Co-editor), Kathy Casavant (Co-editor), Arlene Gagner, Sally Leduo. 2nd Row: Pam Newton, Sharon Benajmin, Joann Bashaw, Mike White, Jay Austin, Dan MacManus, Paul Cady, Jim Hoy, Terry Colburn, Judy Cota, Jerri Morong. VOTE YES BELLOWS FREE ACADEMY AREA VOCATIONAL CENTER Vocational Education 1975-1976 A Year That Will Be Remembered On November 4, 1975, the voters of St. Albans City and Town took another giant step forward. The elector- ate of our community voted to accept one million dollars from the State of Vermont and Federal Government sources to construct and equip a 20,000 square foot Bellows Free Academy Vocational Center Building. It was the consolidated efforts of our BFA Board of Trustees, Administration, faculty, student body, and many con- cerned community members, that have given reality to the promise of additional job skill training for students and adults alike. Presently, planning efforts are under way to construct a facility that will accommodate some 350 students daily. Plans for new vocational course offerings include Building Maintenance, Food Trades and Service, Office Practice Simulation, and Special Education for the mentally handicapped students of high school age. Distributive Education and Cooperative Education are present offerings that will be relocated in the new voca- tional center building. As we know, education is the lifeline to everyone ' s successful career and happines. To have played a part in this educational endeavor which has broadened the horizon for those seeking job skills has been truly an early culmination of my efforts to educate and serve our young people. For many of you in the graduating class of 1976, and for those who follow in your footsteps, vocational education will continue to open the doors of signif- icant employment and assure personal and financial satisfaction as you become successful citizens in our com- munity. Best wishes for success in the world of work. John R. Golden BFA Vocaiional Director Propotcd VoctCion4l Addition BELLOHS FREE ACADEMY AREA VOCATIONAL CENTER Mr. John R. The Booster Club has been the best and will always be one of the best things to happen at B.F. A. The members were able to inspire our various teams to victories by Ringing the bell and drawing in people with their bake sales at games. The club, besides getting parents involved, vigorously earned money for a rebounding machine and the band and hockey trips. We must also mention the well-organized, enjoyable and successful winter sports banquet. We wanted to show our gratitude to the boosters with this special page . IN FOND MEMORY OF PAULA LANG LOIS We would like to express our sorrow with this special page in memory of Paula. Anyone who knew Paula had a good friend and classmate. We knew how much she loved hockey and for that reason we have selected this picture . CLASS PROPHECY These are the true and unalterable events in the future as seen in the crystal ball of the class of 1976. In the year 2001, the class of 1976 is holding its 25th renunion. The gym is crowded with members of the 1976 graduating class of Bellows Free Academy. JAY AUSTIN is a fast talking auctioneer. He has sold more gossip than any other person in history . DAN MacMANUS is an author. His latest book is entitled, 101 WAYS TO FIX BANANA PEELS. Each recipe is personally tested and eaten by Dan. ROBERT BOB LANGEVIN comes to the reunion as an ex-famous French hairdresser. He retired for bigger and better things . JEANNE BOUCHARD is unable to be with the rest of the class. She is waiting for her sentence for her activities in a radical movement. ROBERT DRIVER went straight to the weight room. He is Earth ' s choice for Mr. Universe. MARK CHABOT is editing porno movies of Bugs Bunny. What ' s up Mark? STEVE BRYER owns and operates Bryer ' s Boutique. He is the best dressed person at the reunion . CELESTE CORNFORTH, the famous columnist, arrived late. She answers problems in her column, Dear Celeste. LORI SENES AC had to leave early because of her job . She sets up pins in a bowling alley . TIM CHRISTIE is considered a sex symbol for young America. (All his fans are under 6.) GILBERT CRAIG anived with several followers of his new religion. He is head Swamy. JOHN HOY, after 25 years of hard work, is graduating. PAUL CADY is taking etiquette lessons at a girls ' finishing school. His specialty is table manners . DEBBIE CHOINERE was unable to come, but she was not expected. In the election of the year 2000, she was elected our country ' s second woman President. TAMI TOOF is a happy homemaker for a husband and a dozen lovely children after bing the highest paid NBA player for 10 years . JIM WALSH owns a Toad farm in East Overshoe, Vt. CLASS PROPHECY (amU) KATHY CASAVANT has good news! She has been promoted from a pan to full lime lickel laker ai ihe Welden Theater. RICK TATRO and MIKE BUSHEY are continuing the adventures of Tom Turkey! DONNA INFANTE has just retired from her professional career in sofiball. Las t year she broke Hank Aaron ' s long lasting record for home runs. DARWIN MASKELL is still within the Realm. (alone naturally) ANDRE MENARD towers over the crowded gym. The ex-NHL player is quite a celebrity. HEIDI NEWTON arrived from the Baji 500 in Mexico where the famous Newton Motorcycles led the entire race. ROGER RIXON is still driving on two wheels, (with a car) He passed six cars, on the right, on the way to the reunion. PENNY THIBAULT still has Hope. DAVID RAKOWSKI and Snowflake are expecting iheir 13ih Snowball. VAUGHN ROCK is an escort for Miss America beauty pageants. SUE PARROT is an airline stewardess with Alburg Airlines. MIKE AUBIN couldn ' t make it because he went off the road. GREG BOMBARDIER, MARK MASSA, STEVE VOCK, MIKE WHITE, and BOB LANGEVIN are official chocolate milk tasters at the Hershey-Cow farm. They all enjoy their work. PAULINE BOUDREAU. MARILYN EARLE, JOANNE BASHAW, SALLY LEDUC, CECILE DUSSAULT, SHERRY DEMPSEY , JOAN HOWRIGAN, DIANE MAGNANT, KAREEN TUSCANY, and MARY ELLEN SPENDLEY are still enjoying their night out with the girls. HARLAN POTTER is a jockey. Not only does he ride the fastest horse, but he rides the largest. FRANK PINSONNEAULT has finally learned the Canadian national anthem. He is singing it before every Montreal Canadian hockey game as their Good Luck charm. We remember when he was BFA ' s Good Luck charm in 1976. PI A WIKANT is employed at BFA as teacher of Norwegian. Ninety-nine and nine-tenths of the boys at BFA speak Norwegian. Now, looking at the year 2001, a successful group we have become. ADVICE TO UNDERGRADS We realize B.F. A. will be lonely without ' 76 Seniors here. So we ' ll leave some advice to the underclassmen to help them get thru next year. So to begin with . . . The class of ' 77, who will try to copy our style, to become as great as we are, it will certainly take awhile . The class of ' 78, which thinks it is so great: you ' ll only become that way when it ' s time to graduate. To the class of ' 79, which is last in line; the only hope for you is a lot of time. Undergrads here is what to do . Follow our advice and you are sure to get thru . Senior Parties are a must in every Senior year. Make sure to have a rowdy time , and bring a lot of cheer . Bring all your spirit to every game to give our school the name . Our Hockey Team is making History so let ' s see a Fifth Victory. Now, each new year there ' s that constant fear. Whom will we get for teachers? Some joke around with their classes and then there are those that are preachers . For instance . . . Mr. Ashton notices everyone with Floppy Jaws, that ' s Chewing gum. One of our most fashionable teachers is Mr . Rose . He really knows how to match his clothes . He wears plaids and stripes with his flashy ties. We can blame this on his clever buys. Mr. Moulton is his name and discipline is his game. So stay straight and keep in line because detention is a waste of time . If you enter the library and don ' t hear a sound, it ' s because Miss Lepper is around. And now it ' s time to close this rhyme. Because we ' re running out of time. We have kept it short and sweet. We think you ' ll find that it ' s complete. You underclassmen are here to stay. But we, the class of ' 76. Say, Good-Bye to B.F. A. CLASS HISTORY Freshman year: Many of us spent our time looking for the elevator which everyone insisted existed . Others like Jim Walsh performed in the Freshman play, Bessie the Bandit ' s Beautiful Baby. He found himself with- out a needed gun which he had to have thrown to him across the stage . Chris Sheperd performed a daring feat by jumping out of room one ' s window in the middle of Algebra class when Mrs. Lavarnway was away, with Mr. Streeter as Substitute. Chris likes fresh air. The girls ' J.V. Basketball Team in the meantime dribbled their way to an undefeated season with Miss Catlin as their coach. The hockey team too showed great skill by taking the first Vt. State Championship and going to Maine. While all this was taking place Sue Horan was on a diet. Sonja Cross ended our year with a splash by riding her bike into the swamp at St. Albans Bay to celebrate the end of final exams. Sophomore year: Many of us who loved Geometry class forced ourselves to withdraw from it because we were having so much fun there that we felt it would prevent us from doing well in our other subjects. The hockey team again displayed its skill by winning the Championship for the second consecutive year and again went to Maine. Mark Massa, a loyal fan, went to Maine to support our team but his spirit must have dwindled because he was found sleeping with none other than a comic book. Mr. Zakrzewski was given the privilege of coaching the girls ' J.V. basketball team. This was the first girls ' team he had ever coached. This proved to be no hin- drance as he led them to another undefeated season. Believe it or not, Sue Horan is still dieting. Junior year: Joey Howrigan played the part of a moose in fall frolics this year. The antlers she wore on her head must have damaged her memory because she forgot her lines. Jean Perkins, the narrator, had to say her own part and most of Joey ' s too. While preparing for the start of the Junior Prom, the Band said they accidentally blew a fuse that put out all the lights. Their innocence is questioned but if intentional their scheme failed when Mr. Choiniere got the lights back on. One of our fellow students was determined to find a date to the prom and on last count he was asking girl number ten. Before Sue Horan disintegrated she stopped dieting and began to eat everything in sight. Guess what? The Hockey team did it again. They proved that they were number one again. Senior year: Combining their efforts Steve Vock, Mark Massa, Bob Langevin, Mike White, and Greg Bombar- dier had a milk race, managing to drink 50 cartons of CHOCOLATE milk among them. The evidence was available in the boys ' room. Not only do we have champion milk drinkers among us but also a superb ball handler as Tami Toof displayed in the Essex game. This isn ' t the end of our talents as Greg Bombardier proved when he climbed the rafters in the library during Mrs. Constan ' s class. We have been trying to convince Jean Perkins to wear better clothes to the games and stop falling in snowbanks. You aren ' t going to believe it but Sue Horan is back on a diet again. Thoughout the year whenever things were getting boring we never had to worry for long because we could always count on Mooner- Bouchard to make things more exciting.
