In compiling our Yearbook, we had hoped to capture this spirit of unity, however the limitations on space and medium made it impossible. But this is secondary, because we know that the Spirit of '71 will live on forever. So until we meet again, au revoir mon ami - good-bye my friend. trim 130 rd af Cru fees LEFT TO RIGHT: Frank Stahl, Maurice Greene, Jay Best. NOT PICTURED DUE TO PREVIOUS ENGAGEMENTS: George Costes, Edward Handly. It is impossible to evaluate the services of the citizens of St. Albans who, since the establishment of BFA in 1930, have served as Trustees of Bellows Free Academy. It is to these gentlemen, as well as to our dedicated Administrators and Faculty Members that Bellows Free Academy owes the high position it has maintained among the Secon- dary Schoo1s'of Vermont. The City of St. Albans appoints four members of the five-man Board. The fifth member is appointed by the St. Albans Town Board of Selectmen. Presently serving as Trustees are Maurice Greene, Chairman, Frank Stahl, Jay Best, George Costes, and Edward Handly. Srrzivr 611155 Ofhrrrs , President, Debbie Vock, Treasurer, Ga Hairy Kracker flvrrrrmrzker of the year Jeri Covey yle Susslin, Secretary, Carl Brown, V We, the class of 1971, dedicate our yearbook, Au revoir mon ami to Mr. Robert Ashton. Mr. Ashton is a member of the BFA faculty serving in the English Department. He is also Varsity Football Coach. His loyal cooperation and understanding of the needs of students as individuals has been beneficial to us in our years at BFA. 5 . 1 F , C V WV' We, the class of 1971, also dedicate our yearbook Au revoir mon ami to Mr. James Deshel. Mr. Deshel is chairman of the Science Department, teaching classes of Physics and Earth Science. He serves as advisor of the National Honor Society. His personal involvement in his profession and his willingness to assist any student in need of help promote an ideal student- teacher relationship. 511155 flisfvry While rummaging about the attic one day, I came upon an old faded photo album, reminiscent of my high school days. The first pages brought tears to my eyes. Faces I hadn't seen and names I hadn't heard in years were thrust before me. Faded pictures of the freshman class officers Mike Corrigan, Sherry Fielding, Linda Pouliot, and Cheryl Roberts were there. There were pictures of the band, members of the Stu- dent Council, cheerleaders, and members of various sports teams. Pictures of the sophomore class were more cheerful. Faces hadn't changed that much, Sopho- more class officers were Cheryl Roberts, Sherry Fielding, Ruth Bashaw, and Mary St. Pierre. The picture of the National Honor Society included Ruth Bashaw and Beverly Ripley. Old photos of drama Club members, sports teams, and Student Council abounded on every page. Even a picture of the Sophomore play, Insomnia, had found its way to my book. Many new faces were added to my Junior Year Collection, due to many students transferring from Central Catholic. Class officers were Carl Brown, Ruth Bashaw, Sherry Fielding, and Mary St. Pierre. Pictures of the yearbook staff, the staff of the Mercury, the Band, and the Student Council were reminders of the extras which made School what it was. The football pictures of the Northern Division I Champs made me proud of the Junior men who served on the team. Hockey and wrestling pictures appeared, as they were added to the sports curriculum, Not to be outdone, Junior girls helped B.F.A. become basketball division champions. Springtime brought photos of the exchange concert with Monadock, New Hampshire. COh, what memoriesq Lucky Juniors also took part in the operetta, H.M.S. Pinafore. Pictures of Boys' and Girls' State were here. Faces and names that I remembered were: Pat Batchelder, John Dowling, John Grant, Bill Counos, Phil Branon, Carl Brown, Keith Martell, and Jim Royer. The girls were April Palmer, Christine Bachand, Ruth Bashaw, Janet Seymour, Marie Chevalier, and Anne LaCross. Photos of the Junior Prom, The Dawning of Aquarius, set me to dreaming. Photos of the new Open Campus were plentiful. I tumed the page and found photos of my Senior Year. Class officers were Phil Branon, Carl Brown, Gayle Susslin, and Debbie Vock. Student Council photos included Steve Garrett as president and Cheryl Roberts as treasurer. Photos brought back memories of the new smoking privileges. There were pictures of the Senior Play, We Have Always Lived in the Castle, which was really GREAT, Photos of the track team reminded me that they came out second in the state, Other photos brought back touching memories of the last year that we were together, Slowly, so as not to miss anything, I flipped back through the album. PLOP went the cover, down on the faded pictures. Gone was the magic moment. Alexis Bell Diane Larose Q iw 'N s iw' Ure Administration DONALD C. PIERCE.
