MALLETT Mr. M allelt, to you we dedicate this yearbook of the Class of 1961. You have been to us a friend, a person to confide in, and a source of inspiration. We will always remember you as the man who was always on the go. Many of your hours were spent trying to give us a helping hand with our problems. Without your assistance, many of our dramatic presentations would never have succeeded. You spent your precious time trying to turn us into actors and actresses-and most of the time you succeeded. You would start from scratch with an immature and amateur group and end up with an excellent play worthy of your direction. Would any of our classes have been complete without your visits and the lastet news about colleges and jobs? Whenever the chips were down you always had a cheerful word-and more criti- cism, constructive of course. We wish the best of luck to you in the future, whatever you may attempt. 4 B. F. A. Mercury 5 You Are There' ' Tl1e time June 1961, the place Bellows Free Academy and YOU ARE THERE!! For four years we have been on this case and our report is finally complete. In September 1957, our job began. After a busy sum- mer we thc students, unaware of the challenge we would meet, faced our freshman year full of hope and high am- bition. A survey of the enrollment proved that there were 168 students, 78 boys and 85 girls. The students, voting for the first time as a class, elect- ed: Rcne Bilodeau, Genice Dunlap, Mary Ellen Fitzgerald and Jim Warner as President, Vice-President, Secretary and Treasurer respectively. This was the year that we stepped aside for the seniors and listened with admiration to every word they spoke. As football season rolled around, we were proud to be represented by Rene Bildoeau, Bob Curry, Alan Paquette, Steve Demeritt, Don Taylor, Chris Isham, Jim Pignona, Carroll Lapan, Dick Allard, Wayne Richards, and Mike Loomis. As freshmen we appointed Judy Cvrassett as our repre- sentative to Allied Youth. Chosen as representatives to Student Council were Sandy Heald and Mary Ellen Fitzgerald. Our spies were at the cheerleading tryouts reporting back to headquarters that Genice Dunlap and Mary Ellen Fitzgerald had made the squad. Taking part in the choraliers was Linda Bell. After reports were compiled for the basketball season it showed that the JV team was backed by David Beebe, Jim Pignona, Don Phillips, Steve Demeritt, Rene Bilodeau, Bob Curry and Wayne Richards. The JV Comets were: Sandy Heald, Judy Grassett, Linda Cohen, Melanie Brown, Jean Perras, Nancy Mayo, and Hallie-Jo Collins. As freshmen we tried to prove our acting ability but the Sophomores pulled ahead and won. Our play was HSis- ter Sue with a cast of Sandy Heald, Judy Grassctt, Sally Doubleday, Chuck Kershner, Thorkild Larsen, Hallie-Jo Collins, and VVilliam Cleveland. In September of 1958 we were newly made sophomores and thus, a little more bold and less bewildered. Since we were no longer wandering starry-eyed and hazily through the now-familiar corridors, we confidently elected Ronnie Stokes, Marie Rocheleau, Carol Anderson, and Roberta Heald to lead us through this year. Since then Ronnie and Carol have moved away. Priscilla Titemore, Chris lsham and Rene Bilodeau were elected to Student Council. Our spies reported that as Sohpomores we won in the Junior Jamboree with the play How to Propose with Chuck Kershner, Jim Hopkins, Rene Bilodeau, Hallie-Jo Collins, Linda Bell, John Graveline, Bill Cleveland, Sally Doubleday, Judy Moore, George Henderson, Leslie Pratt. Judy Grassett, and Mary Ellen Fitzgerald. The new Champlain Chapter of the National Honor Society had eight sophomores as original members: Sandy Heald, Linda Cohen, Sally Doubleday, Jim Hopkins, Leslie Pratt, Wayne Richards, and George Henderson. Sally Doubleday, Linda Bell, and Judy Grassett prov- ed to be excellent representatives of our class in Choraliers. Board and found that the new Secretary was Judy Grassett with Judy Moore as Class Representative. That was the year the Bobwhites went to Boston. The JV team had for members, Billy Lesperance, Manager, Wayne Richards, Rene Bilo- deau, Jim Pignona, Don Phillips, Jim Hopkins, and Ala11 Paquette. Now as Sophomores on the Comets squad there were Judy Grassett, Linda Cohen, Melanie Brown, Jean Perras, Sandy Heald, Nancy Mayo, Nancy Best, and Hallie-Jo Collins.
