We thank you for always being there to straighten out our grades, and straighten out us! Mrs. Cote: Our number one fan. We thank you for all your support and enthusiasm. Mr. McAuliffe: Always there to help us in any way he can. He seems to have his thumb in everything the seniors do! Mr. Mrs. Waryas: Support, dedication, hard work, time and effort... They have it all! Thank you. Mrs. Collins: The Warden of our library! Why she ever put up with all of us and the things we did we will never know. We owe her a great deal of thanks ... and a bottle of aspirin! Peter Mark Frink: Managers Extraordinare! They have been a major helping force in managing many sports activities through the years. Thank you. Mr. James Holton: Our Groundskeeper. Bellows Falls has the best athletic facilities in the state due in great part to the efforts of Mr. Holton. His dedication and great efforts to make B.F.U.H.S. a showcase to be proud of should not go by without recognition. Thank you. Mr. Perkins Mr. Ratti: Our Guidance Department. Without their help, many of us would not be on our way to college next year. We thank them both for stretching the truth a little so most of us were accepted. Mr. Soboleski: Always there to help us clear the underclassmen from OUR halls! We thank you for your leadership, and for all the Legal” slips! Mrs. Buckley: Simply a SUPER lady! Always friendly with a smile to cheer our day. Thank you. Mrs. Geraldine Harty Mrs. Reggie Cote Mr. John McAuliffe Mr. Mrs. Fredrick Waryas Mrs. Cynthia Collins Mark Peter Frink Mr. James Holton Mr. Edward Soboleski Mr. Ratti Mr. Perkins Mrs. Majella Buckley 3 2f)edicati on Baron de Couhertin, the father of lire modern Olympics, wrote: Dihe most important thing in the Olympic (fames is not to win, hut to tahe part, just as the most important thing in life is not the triumph hut the struggle. Dhe essential thing is not to have conquere d, hut to h ave fought well. ,9t is most fitting that, in this Olympic year, we have chosen to honor a man who typifies this Olympic iht every sense oflk e word. .Aik, has lived his life, so has he influenced us to live ours: Dhe most important thing is not the triumph hut the struggle. With a smile on his face, with a Sparhle in his eye, and with a cheerful note in his voice, he has brightened many a moment of lontineSS, many a sad spirit, many a feeling of helpless despair, (fame after game, meet after meet, he has been our loyal fan, our staunch supporter, through his teaching and through his example we have learned the essential thing is not to have conquered, hut to have fought well. though this tohen of our gratitude is small in comparison to all that he has done for us, it is with love and pride that the Bellows Dalis Union . idiglxi School (lass of 1984 and the 1983-84 Sampler TJearhooh Staff dedicate our Sampler to Wr. They mean nothing Even to you? It's quite clear I'm confused and I don’t like it and you are too distant to help I can’t tell you how to feel or be or live You’ll have to sort things out in your own mind It’s frustrating I know but try don’t cry it works when you learn how. Beautiful flower, Standing upright in the rain, Challenging the world. Dandelion fluff Scattered afar by the wind So much like old friends. 96 I am but a single grain upon a stalk of wheat — if I were to fall off and die, would only the clouds weep for me? A single leaf floats On the soft, still morning breeze; Last ride until spring. The children play the whole day long it seems; They have no worry of the time of day. They only have their playthings and their dreams, But that's enough to keep them for today. The children's words the adults don’t understand. They hurry around to be on time. They can't remember all the things they’d planned When they were young and life was at its prime. But in each grownup lives a little kid, And getting old is every child's fate. Adults do things when they were young they did. The gap between the two is not so great. The ones who realize number very few The older folks were once young people, too. He heaved a sigh; he wiped his brow; His shirt was soaked with sweat. The sun beat down upon his back; The game was not through yet. He licked his lips; he shook his head; He stared down at the plate. The batter stared right back at him; He wondered of his fate. The cather passed a sign to him; He nobbed solemly. He looked around at all his team; “Help me Oh Lord,” said he. A wave of fear washed over him And then was gone again. He bravely pushed his shoulders back - It was a game for men. He stepped up on the rubber slab, He looked both back and front, He thought of what he was to do Come linedrive, grounder, bunt. Now he brought both his glove and ball Together at his waist. His move began, his style was smooth, And now he was in haste. Each movement flowed into the next As he rocked back and threw. He saw the ball leave from his hand, And then he followed through. The tiny, white blur rocketed Straight toward the catcher's glove, And then it curved and broke away — The batter swung above. The sound of baseball hitting glove He heard so loud and clear, And then he saw his catcher jump And heard the crowd all cheer. The batter slouched dejectedly; Three runners left on base, Their hopes in seconds dashed away All gone without a trace. And so the inning ended then. The game so ended, too. And though it’d been a close ballgame, The score stood; three to two. He heaved a sigh; he wiped his brow; Relief brought on a smile. He walked in triumph off the mound, The hero for a while. 97 98 SENIOR QUIZ (Part B) 51. ) Who are the only twins in our class? 52. ) Who was a real “BRAT” her junior year? 53. ) What senior boy and girl were born the same day one year apart? 54. ) Who KNOWS the football team only holds “NO PAIN” practices? 55. ) Who knows more about the Red Sox than YAZ? 56. ) Who played the two lead rolls in our Senior Class play? 57. ) Who wakes up the cows at 4 A.M.? 58. ) Who was. is. always has been, and always will be Mr. Burton's favorite! 59. ) Who makes the best apple cider? 60. ) Who had to be driven home from Vinnie’s New Years Party? 61. ) Who taught Mr. Fawcett’s son how to ride a horse? 62. ) Who is the long distance runner known as “WORM' ! 63. ) Who use to live in Worchester, Massachusetts? 64. ) Who is the winner of the 1984 COW BELL AWARD ? 65. ) Who is the most romantic senior boy? Together we have made our way Along the trodden path. Together we have grown and shared Our smiles, our fears, our wrath. We've come from all across the land; We've joined to form a class; We’ve shared our worries, tears and fun And all that's come to pass. The sports events, the ups, the downs. Excitements, thrills and pride, The victories, the sad defeats, The teams with whom we’ve vied. The joyful times together spent, The memories we share; The smiles, the grins, the giggles, too. We've really learned to care. The lonely times we've spent apart; The times we've spent in tears, Alone, afraid, away from friends, Are mingled through the years. The friendships formed we won't let die; The bonds will stay as true; The times we've shared we won't forget Although we're starting new. The memories of all these years Will stay within our heart No matter time, direction, change, Nor distant miles apart. For now we stand, tomorrow near, Today will slowly fade. Yet where to go and what to do? Decisions must be made. The path we choose, the road we take; We all will start to roam. Tomorrows come, and years escape; We all will find a home. Yet when we've grown and found our place, Recall the days of yore, And, smiling, reminisce about The Class of Eighty-Four. —Miss Katherine Guild SCHOOL COLORS CLASS FLOWER Purple White White Rose Tipped Purple SCHOOL SONG ALMA MATER Bellows Falls ever glorious Our strong band can ne'er be broken Bellows Falls to you we sing Formed in B.F.
