He taught Social Science and was the football and tennis coach while here. He left in 1967 to assume a teaching position at Kingswood Regional High School in Wolfeboro. New Hampshire. It is to him that we dedicate this yearbook. He gained the respect and friendship of his students and fellow teachers. He was always there to lend help when it was needed. His homeroom 203 was filled every mom- ina with visitors”. Some for advice, others just to talk about Saturday’s game or what they did the night before. Whether it was on the football field or in school. Mr. Lovett had a high set of values and everyone who came in contact with him complied with these values. His friendship and respect is something to be proud of. Many nice things were said about Mr. Lovett in the area newspapers and by people all over the state when he announced his intentions of leaving Bellows Falls to go on to better himself elsewhere in the education field, but the finest tributes of all were never written or spoken. They are in the minds and hearts of all his B.F.H.S. students-who could not put their true feelings into words—and will be there for all time. 3 Katherine Coffey Machine Operator Hilton Holland Sccre,ar ’ Superintendent SCHOOL BOARD The School Board has five members who are elected by the townspeople. The chairman of the School Board is William Hen- nessey and the other members are Leonard Lisai. Alfred Githens. Priscilla King, and Roland Edwards. Their services are vital and include transportation arrange- ments, hiring teachers, determination of school holidays, selection and approval of textbooks, supervising the maintenance of school property, and the presentation of diplomas to the graduating class. The school system is like a machine and the board is the body that keeps this machine in tune and functioning properly. We should be proud and happy to have such an efficient, re- sponsible and hard-working School Board to meet our demands in education. 4 Charles Davis Principal Majella Buckley Secretary Richard Streeter Assistant Principal Gloria Quinn Secretary Betty Bezanson Secretary Jean Adams French Lora Adams Home Economics H ■ Stanley Albro Social Science. OUR CLASS I tty Bitty Freshmen-This was the year of being called the “babies’’. Freshmen Initiation—rollars, towels, earrings, lipstick, giggles, squeals and loud off-key singing. Tne reception-Kathy Kelton pouring chocolate syrup on Paul Waiyas, Bumper Mallcy kissing Phyllis Davis and “love- ly” renditions of “Mary Had a Little Lamb” and “Stand- ing on the Corner”. The dance that followed this em- barrassment and laughter. This was also the year of putting on a dance for the entire senior high school. The center piece was a large maypole surrounded by paper flowers, stuffed animals and balloons. Silly Sophomores-No longer the “babies” we could pick on the Freshmen along with the juniors and seniors. The fear of the first year had dwindled and we felt more at ease. The biggest event of this year was getting class rings. We had become upperclassmen, a part of the school, with the proof on our finger. Our sophomore dance was called “Gilligan’s Island”—an island, hut, some palm trees, and of course Gilligan. Jolly Juniors-The Junior Prom, “Pink Panther , was a great success. There were about 125 couples attending. Bonnie Burchstead was chosen our queen with Patty Howe, Debbie Hiendel and Sue Cray for her court. We also put on the last dance of the year which was “South of the Border”. The Junior year meant we were the heirs to the position held by the reigning seniors. Mighty Seniors-Pictures, graduation announcements, being monitors, getting the Freshmen initiated, being able to use the front stairs, decorating the big Christmas tree and getting to un-decorate it, putting on the Senior Semi, ana the Senior Play. “Annie Get Your Gun” was the title of our play and it ran two nights, each night a sell out. Dianne Musgrove was “Annie.” This is the year of good-byes, tears, joy, graduation rehearsal, plan- ning for the future, and stepping down so the Juniors can fill our spot for next year. Not only was it just a name but the cover resem- bled a sampler in that the letters and figures were made by lines drawn to represent stitches. The purpose is to give people an insight on the hap- penings during the school year such as sports, formals, clubs, plays, the band and orchestra, plus it gives a look at every member of the high school concentrating pretty much on the seniors. It also shows what Bellows Falls High School’s faculty looks like, a feature not to be overlooked. The Sampler staff tries to relate these things through quality photography and writing. Above all the Sam- pler represents hard work, long hours and the co-oper- ation of every member of the staff. 74 The Hi-Schooler is B.F. High School’s newspaper. It is a four page tabloid reporting topical news once a month. The Hi-School- er is similar to a regular newspaper in that it provides the most important news on page one. Page two is devoted to editorials, a student poll. Teen’s View, Random Ravings, a cartoon, and any other news of interest to the students. A feature, Junior High news, and advertisements follow on page three. Page four is ex- clusively devoted to sports and an advertisement. Dianne Musgrove and John Brennen were the leading characters. The play was under the direction of Cynthia Clark. All in all it was a smashing success. The competition was keen for the annual 1-Act Play Contest but the winner emerged as the play featuring an all-senior cast. “A Marriage Propos- al” written by Anton Checkhov and directed by Cynthia Clark went on to take the district play contest, also. Members of the cast were Pat Smith, Harold Berg, and Dennis Cowing. The other two players competing with “A Mar- riage Proposal” were “The Seance”, an adaptation directed by John McAuliffe whose cast included Gail Howard, Tom DeLeon, and Karen McMen- namin and “Poor Men Of the Earth” written and directed by Jean Adams and featuring Armondo Sosa. The best actress and actor for the evening were Gail Howard and Armondo Sosa. 78 G L E E C L U B D. Beck E. Beneware M. Blanchard M. Bussey L. Carroll S. Clark S. Cox K. Daigle M. Donafree D. The rainy day didn’t hinder the Ter- riers this day when a 13-0 victory took place over Springfield. Two of the Senior players could not participate in this game be- cause of injuries, co-captain Bill Hadley ana Roger Lockerby, but these boys are to be congratulated, along with the others, for a fine season. It seems like so long ago that we were doing these things, posing for these pictures. Remember when Dave Blake went with three girls at the same time? Remember when Joe Fischer and Dave Allbee had crew-cuts? Remember Phyllis Davis and her shuffle-shuffle step and her blue checked bikini? Re- member when a nun broke a ruler over Billy Porter’s hand? Remember Marilyn Miller’s pajama parties? Remember when we wore our dresses below our knees? Remember when pixies were “in”? Those years past were the fun years of our lives. We will look at these pictures in years to come and laugh, perhaps, at the thoughts we have of our school years and the way we looked when we were younger. Many will wish that they could relive the past and many shall relive it when looking at these portraits. 103 Wouldn’t it be funny if: Terry was a farmer instead of a Shepard.
