It can't happen here! These were the words we have been hearingufor a long time conceming a joint school program. The invisible county line d been a barrier almost as hard to penetrate as the iron curtain or so it would seem from the debating of ideas for years. It can happen here! Shortly after the 1950-5lschool term started, representatives from severalof the surrounding school districts met at the Marion High School. At this meeting Mr. Harry Brownfield, Fayette County Superintendent of Schools, and Mr. James Hughes, Westmoreland County Superintendent of Schools, informed the group as to the procedure in forming joint school districts. Four of the local districts continued meeting in the interest of a joint school program. These districts were Fayette City, Be e Vemon, North Belle Vemon, and Washington Township. At the Fayette City meetinsg it was agreed that Mr. Fee would be the super- vising Principal, and Mr. Van remen, t e assistant to the supervising principal. At this same meeting it was decided to have preliminary articles 0 agreement drawn up. It did happen here! s is g.. .1 B, SARRA G. TROZZO S. FIGEL S. RUBY M. MITCHELL -I ' B' e9 B f 1 R- HAMER G. ROY I. HOFFMAN G. BOSTON A. SMITH SCHOOL BOARD On the eveninglof April 5, 1951 the members of the four school districts met in Vernon Hig School. This was the meeting that everyone was waiting for. As the individual articles of the agreement were passed, a secretary typed the final pages of the contract. By 1:30 a. m. April 6, 1951 the twenty members of the Joint School Board had signed their names. The Bellmarette Joint School District was born. At this early moming meeting the following officers were elected: J, KASUDA President - Donald Duvall, Vice President - Blanden Bulger, Treasurer - John Cameron. At a later meeting the office of secretary was divided into two officers - recording secretary, and financial secretary, and J. E. Kuhn as recording secretary. At this point, one would have thought all the work was finished, actually this is where it started. The budget, election of personnel, inspection of building and grounds, textbooks and sup lies, transport- ation and athleticsg all of these were carefully studied by various committees and tgeir suggestions submitted to the Joint Committee or Joint Board for action. Now while watching the system develop, the long hard hours of work can be recalled as a worthy task. To the members of the Bellmarette Joint School Board - an orchid for a job well done. Q, XX X xl SIENIOIQS ,.:2-12 ' SENIOR CLASS HISTORY We, the seniors of Bellrnar, have enjoyed three wonderful years of high school education, some of us spending our first two years at Marion High, others spent the two years at Vernon High. We are now united into one successful senior class of Bellmar High. We're leaving our high school days behind, going out in the world and either working or furthering our education. Always we will try to be successful citizens. The years went quickly. Only a few years ago we were sophomores, and as usual, made many mistakes. The sponsors of our sophomore class were Mr. Krivda, Mr. Snow, Mr. Tedesco, Mrs. Cramer, and Miss Rasdorf. We raised a little money by holding bake sales and collecting dues. We left the bigger money making projects to the juniors and seniors. Our activities con- sisted of a few assembly plays and dances. The next year, our junior year, seemed to go faster than any of our other school time. Our junior class sponsors were Mrs. Shook, Miss Kish, Mrs. Cramer, Mr. Tedesco, and Mr. Figler. This yearwe had to raise money and lots of it. We worked at the concession stand duringbasket- ball and football seasons, sold jelly beans and Christmas cards, sponsored bake sales and dances and also presented a junior class play entitled, 'Our Miss Brooks . ln our senior year, we had a succession of successful activities under the supervision of Mrs. Russell, Mrs. Cramer, Miss Gorio, and Mr. Tedesco. A few of our many activities were selling cards, magazine subscriptions, candy and tickets to various entertainments. The tra- ditional senior class play was presented, Cheaper by the Dozen . We were able to eamenough money for a trip to Washington D. C. where everyone enjoyed themselves. We must say that we could not have attained these great heights if it had not been for our wonderful parents, teachers, and principals, who encouraged us with untiring efforts. 18 in SENIOR SPONSORS V g v 1 D , -- , ..s..-v 4,.... -4 ,-.v--... ..- V ,. . --,. That's the time in a family when you're all to- gether, Before anything has happened to any one of us. So began this delightful play with two of the young people remembering happy times.with Dad and Mother. Dad, an efficiency expert, believed that what works in the factory should work in the home. Consequently, despite his daughters' interest in boys and dates, Dad tried to organize his large family by means of charts, fines, and language records. Because, with a bad heart, he was living on borrowed time, his main interest was to leave the lightest load possible on Mother. Although he had no apprecia- tion for silk hose, dates, dogs, motorcycles, and cheerleaders, Dad managed to arrive at complete un- derstanding with his numerous progeny before saying his final good -bye and leaving to givea lecture in Europe, never to return. The cast for the play, which was directed by Miss Frost, was as follows: Dad . . . . .... FRED FUNDY Mother . . . . BETTY DE FAZIO Anne . . . . .DONNA NACCARATO Ernestine . . ..... The boys were called together in August by their new coach. After two weeks of conditioning drills, they left for Maple Grove Park, their camp site. ln the mean time the student body decided on Black and Gold' for school colors and the narne selected for the team was the l-lurricane. The team made a good start by upsetting a highly respected DerryTownship eleven. The good fortune continued as the Hurricane rolled over team after team. After a tie with the very powerful California team, the team was upset by an inspired North Union outfit. Although their unbeated string was broken and the injuries were beginning to tell the tale of the long season, the boys won another game before dropping the final to a fine Ramsay team. , A' .-vs...
