The String and Chamber Orchestras had a busy and productive year which began with a “Practice-A-Thon” in September to build both their musicianship and tour fund. It culminated in an hour-long concert for which the sponsors received free tickets. Little more than a week following this, the group performed for the 1979 What-A-Sho. During this time the group was also involved with a pen sale, picture promotion, squash wash, art print display, paper and aluminum drives, and a car wash. The week of Thanksgiving found them presenting a Fall Concert and soon thereafter they began their chocolate mint sale. The Chamber Orchestra was busy during this time performing for various functions which included holiday parties, a graduation ceremony, and even a wedding! The Annual Christmas Concert was - held on Monday, December 17. Following the holiday vacation, Chamber worked on contest and operetta music while the large group prepared for a February con- cert. The orchestras also sponsored a dance following the basketball game with Stanwood on January 18. The high point of this year came with the trip to Dis- neyland in which selected members of the orchestras participated. After Spring vacation, the orchestras worked on the Annual Spring Concert and also gave per- formances at some neighboring schools. The year concluded with a traditional graduation performance at which the group said “goodbye” to several of its out- standing seniors. Row 1: Sarah Bussard, Lorri Tomlinson, Kim Dickerson. Row 2: Wade Larsen, Matt Nims, Jon Day, Mary Pitsch, Pam Kolbe, Val Strode, Mary Davis, Rachel Olivier, Juliann Grinstead, Linda Pilon, Donna Christie, Kevin Gustafson, Ke- vin Dickerson, Ben Kuiken. 1: Mr. Schlichting demon- strated how it should be done. 2: Brian McAra played his bass. 3: Lorri Tomlinson, Sarah Bussard, and Kim Dick- erson waited for their cue. 4: Donna Christie, Linda Pilon, Kevin Gustafson, and Kevin Dickerson concentrated on their music.
