Red Raider Band B.H.S. is the proud owner of a special and highly exclusive item, a 135-piece marching band under the direction of Mr. (Uncle Ralph) Pauley. It is this man, with Mr. Chuck Trentman’s help, who has given so much time, devotion, and talent that we can thank for producing the best band possible. Of course, it is an honor to be a member of that highly disciplined and talented band, and to know that you belong to something so great, that awards and travel become a way of life. For instance, last Spring they took First Place in the Blossomtime; then during their 10-day return to Hawaii, they received 2nd Place in Kamehameha Day Parade out of twelve bands participating. Next they played at the P.N.E. to pick up their 26th consecutive First Place. In September at band day at the University of Washington the band entertained 50,000 spectators of the U.W. vs. Iowa game during halftime. We hear their spirited music throughout the year at parades, football and basketball games, and pep assemblies. They play in the Christmas and Spring Concerts and the Stage Band performs throughout town. Majorette Joni DeFries presents a plaque to “Uncle” Ralph Pauley, B.H.S. Band Director, in recognition of his 25 years of teaching and his 15 years of work with the band. This occurred by surprise at the end of the band’s performance at the Homecoming game.
