With such an active year the class of ‘77 is sure to be alive and kicking for years to come. 68 Aasheim, Brenda Adema, Susie Agard, Jane Albee, Judy Alton, Russ Anderson, Alice Anderson, Lily Asher, Mike 69 Aughe, John Badgley, Lisa Ballew, Lisa Bannerman, Danette Barker, Valerie Barnes, Cathy Barney, Del Bauer, Nancy Beaulieu, Kurt Benedict, Matthew Benner, Robin Bennett, Matthew Bennett, Tammi Benson, Jeanine Benson, Julie Bergner, Laurie Bergsma, Shawn Bland, Morris Bliesner, Dave Bob, Roger Bollinger, Valerie Bowman, Seth Brackinreed, Gill Brannian, Bob RE Ae Bring, Yvonne Brooks, Cheryl Brumbelow, Kirk Buckenmeyer, Teresa Buell, Steve Burgraff, Marion Burke, Janet Calloway, Starr Canaan, Joyce Carlson, Lisa Chapman, Rick Christie, Jon Cole, Brian Conger, Jerry Conger, Tammy Cooper, Ruth Cory, Susan Crain, Maureen Crainer, Howard Crape, Daryl Craswell, Cathy Critchett, Colleen Crumley, Donna Crumley, Lance Curtright, Glenn Dahli, Ron Dancer, Kathy Danielson, Lori Dealy, Pam DeBord, Russell DeFries, Victoria Demmert, Lawrence Ebergson, Brian Eggert, Bill Eggert, Karen Eriksson, Kathleen Embrey, Peggy Emerson, Jeff Emerson, Marvi Erickson, Sharon Evich, Mark Ewing, Lori Farwell, Janey Fast, Janet Faulkner, Byron Faupel, Scott Fischer, Martha Fisher, Greg Fladd, Lisa Flanders, Mark Follis, Starck Folsom, Leanne Friedl, Sandra Galley, Chris Gamble, Skip Gardisky, Mike Gates, Karen Gates, Laurie Gelder, Alice Genther, Carrie 72 Gerner, Gary Gilmore, Tony Glad, Jeffrey Gluck, Allan Gormley, Kirk Graham, Susan Grass, Karen Green, Christina Green, David Grim, Gary Haggith, David Hahnel, Debbie Hallman, Jeff Hamer, Dee Haney, Brian Hanson, Rob Hanson, Stan Harrison, Tamara Harvey, Carrie Hatch, Greg Haughness, Debbie Hayes, Paul Heathers, Nita Hempel, Chip Hendrickson, Rae Ann Henifin, Erin Henry, Nancy Hill, Vince Hindman, Donna Hinojosa, Joe , Hinton, Greg Hinton, Lisa Hogue, Dwight Holding, Lori Houck, Sue Howard, Sandra Hulsebus, Kristie Humphreys, Kathy Jansen, Dan Jansen, Steve Jeffers, Scott Jenkins, Don Jenkins, James Johnson, Jack Johnson, Jay Johnson, Sheri Jones, Diane Jones, Wendy Jorissen, Sherry Kaaland, Lorna Kabela, Ed Karuza, Dick Kassner, Dan Kayton, Kelli Keel, Karey Kehl, Gary Kelln, Brad Kellom, Leonard Kelly, Kevin Kerr, Dennis Kinzel, Roger Kirschman, Julie Kohler, Diane Komac, Tresa Kortlever, Tom Kovacevich, Shelley Laird, Teria Lambert, Tammy Lane, Alfred Lane, Brian Lanham, Carr Larsen, Mary 73 74 Larson, Jon Lawrence, Ken Lawrence, Paul Leanderson, Gretchen Leech, Jeri Leistiko, Gordon Lemmon, Donna Leslie, Laurence Ligocki, Don Lincoln, Tom Lindquist, Michael Lovingfoss, Craig Luder, Cathy Lynch, Kathy Madison, James Magner, Liz Maleng, Kim Marcus, Donna Marshall, Kristy Martin, Janice Martinka, Chris Mastor, Leslie Mastor, Lisa Matheny, Edesse Matyas, Anne McCullough, Tim McLeod, Lisa McPherson, Beth Medema, Christie Melbo, Mark Melugin, Lynda Meyer, Beth Middleton, Bob Millard, Debbie Millspaugh, Cindy Moody, Mary Morris, Mike Morris, Tom Morse, Tim Myers, John Neely, Patrice Nelson, Peggy Newton, Gary Neyens, Loren Nix, Sandy Noble, Delbert O'Connell, Tim O’Heren, Shannon Olsen, Colin Olson, Jeff Oswalt, Jess Otis, Shirlee Palmer, Diana Parris, Penny Patinall, Tom Patterson, Maurice Payne, Susan Pearson, Jon Pennington, Lisa Peterson, Susan Pfannenstiel, Debbie Phair, Jerry Phillips, Bud Polinkus, Gordon Prosser, Kerry Raber, Duff Randmel, Bart Rauch, Diane Rayborn, Jeff Razore, Cathy Recker, Jill Regan, Patrick Revey, Leroy Reynolds, Gregg Rhea, Stanley Richardson, Jeanine Riley, Randall Roberts, Leanne Robertson, Susan Robinson, Bill Roddey, Robert Rogers, Jimmie Rohwer, Stephen Rounds, Sharon Rudd, Steve Ruthford, Tamara Sadler, Dan Salstrom, Mike Schacht, Clark Schencking, Lea Seaman, Shelli Sehrt, Karen Seigman, Lori Senechal, Gary Senuty, Erik Shelly, Sheila Shetler, Cheryl Short, Gretchen Siden, Michael Slesk, Barb Slesk, Bev Sluys, Kevin Small, Debra Small, Rick Smith, Belinda Smith, Bruce Smith, Darren Smith, Doug Smith, La Vern Solberg, Jodi Soley, Ron Splockton, Dianne Stewart, Rick 77 78 Stiglitz, John Stone, Lawson Strack, Becky S@ickland, Carol Strickler, Scott Strode, Cindy Swanson, Marlene Swanson, Sandy Swedelius, Tristan Sweitzer, Mike Todahl, Kathy Todd, Terry Todhunter, Bruce Toohey, Patricia Toroni, Matt Totten, Kris Treat, Ed Tretwold, Leanne Unger, Tom Unick, Scott Vail, Helen Valentine, Robert Vallee, Guy VanBeek, Cheryl Vandegrift, Mark Varner, Jeffrey Villalon, Rose Wade, Jim Wahl, Brendan Walker, Jim Walton, Larry Warwick, Willis Weed, Aprit Weyhrich, Kurt Whipple, Ron Williams, Dick Williams, Ken Willison, Faye Wilson, Linda Wilson, Suzy Woulf, Terri Wright, Cindy Wright, Robert Younkins, Karen Yunker, Janet Zehnder, Teresa Zollatz, Tibb End, The MISSING: Beaman, Jerry Bob, Robert Braun, Tim Ellis, Gene Harris, David Hiegler, Terry Moore, Patricia Sumption, John Thompson, Diane Vess, Terry Dr. Richard L. As any one of the many guys and gals who represent our school, in sports, may tell you, school spirit is vital for the existence of a team. A cheerleader, to the people they cheer for and encourage, is like a needed life line. The faith they need is in the cheerleaders. To define what a cheerleader is would be difficult. They stand for the support of a whole school brought together, the hopes, fears, courage and faiths are wrapped in a girl’s heart when she becomes a cheerleader. She is the root of school spirit, she feeds it, encourages its growth, refuses to allow its death. We owe a lot to our cheerleaders, the people who carry Bellingham’s name in a game or a meet know it, now we as students should realize it, they deserve our thanks. . .and so much more. iy N EN les... th 2 S = F BELLINGHAM Fit Homecoming 73... 74 has done it again! The Seniors won Homecoming this year to make the class of 74” the first to win Homecoming four years straight. The theme was Hillbillies, and, although there was no hall competition this year, the Seniors made sure the school was as festive as the mood, showering the halls and student lounge with garlands of toilet paper. In other competitions the Seniors won yell, daily competition, float, and run-through sign. Juniors won spirit tags, skit and are to be congratulated for the red and white plane that flew above the parade. Although we did lose the football game, everyone was proud of our guys for the fight they put up! All in all one must say that it was a “rip-snortin, knee-slappin, toe-tappin’ week and it was well worth the tissue, eh guys? ——= ae Tim Thon, Gregg Reynolds Lisa Day, Greg Pitsch, Shelly Kovacevich, Ken Rose Bekki Anderson, Joene Swendt Gallimaufry ... Se) What-a-Sho Gallimaufry. . . if one said that word in public he might recieve some wondering stares and a few insulted gasps, but it is an innocent word. and a word that became the theme for this year’s What-a-Sho. In the silent and awesome caverns of BHS’s auditorium, some one hundred or so students pooled their talents together and created a show good enough to entertain an audience. All the people who spent time and patience rehearsing this show cannot be mentioned but a hearty congratulations can be extended for a job well done. An interesting highlight of the show was, as always, the crowning of the royalty. Unlike previous years the girls were chosen from the cast. Although it’s not the first time anyone has had to work for their title, it was an unusual change. And a special thanks to Mr. Krag who, before now, has had little praise for so much giving on his part. Although he states often that the students make or break the show one can truthfully say that Mr. Krag makes and breaks the students. OOO swl8. KYIOOS 390a. When it comes time for basketball, that same B.H.S. fan will notice this same group of students sitting up in the corner of the B.H.S. gym blowing their horns for all they're worth. This group, made up of over 100 students, is the B.H.S. Red Raider Band, directed by Mr. Ralph Pauley. The band is involved in many other activities besides playing for organized sports. For the 25th consecutive year, the band came home with a trophy for best band at the P.N.E. parade. They also played at a B.C. Lion’s game in honor of Dr. Leedy, who was the first director to take an American band to a Lion’s game. They lead our Homecoming parade, play in the What-A-Sho, Christmas Concert, Operetta, and are going to Hawaii for a return engagement. On Tuesday of each } week, 2nd and 3rd periods of the day, during the school year, the handicapped children in the elementary schools of Bellingham | are given swimming instruction at | the YMCA by Mrs. “Pinky’’ Moore, assisted by a few adult volunteers and about 30 BHS Students. Help is given in the showers, dressing rooms, and going up and down stairs, both before and after swimming, and in the two pools: wading and splashing for the non- swimmers and swimming and diving for the more proficient swimmers. No “extra” credit is received by the helpers but much satisfaction as well as fun is obtained in helping these less fortunate children. ABOVE: Row 1: Paul Lawrence, Dianne Jones, Dave Overcash. The place that offers the means to learn or perfect these various skills is the Bellingham Vocational Technical Institute or as it is better known, the Tech School. Such classes as Auto Mechanics, Electronics, Engineering, Nursing, Restaurant Trades and Secretarial Skills are offered. Of course there are many others which can’t be mentioned but they, too, are needed and appreciated. Not speaking in terms of win or loss, but in the fact that for the first time in several years BHS has finally mustered up an offensive attack, which could make them a contender for the Conference Crown in 1974. This outstanding offensive threat was led by Quarterback Butch West and receivers like Dave Duppenthaler and Gregg Todd, along with Halfback Bill Bragg. Bellingham’s defensive squad led by Linebacker Curt Blakeway and Bill Evans a defensive tackle, led an effective defense which remained consistent all year long and gave us many’ exciting and close finishes. Among these were a 15 - 13 loss to Sehome that went to the final seconds and quelching a last minute push by Anacortes, to bring BHS its first Conference win in 3 years. With the return of a fine field of Juniors and Sophomores, plus the addition of a vast Freshman mob and the excellent coaching staff headed by Coach Vel West. 1974 looks to be a brighter season than BHS has seen in years.
