10. F in-stssulggg Big Red does it once again! 1971 was a season of frustrations for the Red Raider gridmen. Expectations were high, but as the season progressed inability to win the close ones destroyed all hopes for a playoff berth and a high conference standing. Except for the loss to Woodway in our first game the Reds were extremely competitive in all other performances. Losses to Terrace. Cascade, Prep, Everett, Sehome, and Snohomish were all by two touchdowns or less. Bright spots a sparkling 16-6 Homecoming victory over a fine Mariner team with Glenn Pauley giving an outstanding performance and an exciting comeback 26-12 win over the Chiefs of Meadowdale highlighted by Stu Heaton's thrilling 87-yard kick-off return, Even though their record was disappointing, the Raiders were respected throughout the league as evidenced by Bellingham players receiving all- Conference recognition, Jeff Reynolds and Doug Black were named to the Wesco 2nd team, while Jack Dyrland, Jim Wegley, Greg Lockwood, Randy Barr, Mike Reynolds, and Glenn Pauley received honorable mention. Special Award Winners for the Raiders this year were Darrell Hlllaire, Inspirational: Doug Black, Best Blocker and Tacklerg Randy Bradford, Eric Strode, Steve Webb, Scholarship, Mike and Jeff Reynolds, Co-Captains.
