SW: i nf' .W-W' - V af Sports Sports played an important role in Bellingham High's history during the 71-72 season. Everyone swelled with well deserved pride as our mighty Red Tommy Hawk sliced the Green Wave and won the city championship in Basketball. After a two year delay we finally won another Football Homecoming with a 16 to 6 victory over Mariner. The decision to join the Northwest AAA and withdraw from the Westco League can only be viewed as both historic and wise. A look to the lighter side shows the BHS Men's Faculty Bowling team in the championship playoffs and Coach Walton's being thrown out of the Seattle Prep game. The Bellingham hall of fame has a new member as of this year. Our very own Cary Feldman, an ex-BHS student who transferred to Sehome in his Senior year, won a gold medal for the javalin throw in the Pan-Am games. On a somewhat sadder note came the resignation of Rex Johnson, Football Coach for 11 years. lt's hard to imagine the locker room without his never ceasing energy, or the playing field without his proven experience. But Coach Johnson won't really be gone next year, for he'll still come to our games. And when our quarterback sees him in the stands a familiar phrase will go out to the team Win one for the Rex.
