DEDICI-lTl0 Mr. Jackson as football coach some ten years ago. Mr. Jackson as principal today. This Island ls Yours, Mr. luchson i Who is this tall, rangy man who paces the halls smiling at faculty and students-who's first on the dance floor at the proms and last to lock up at night? Why, it's nobody but Mr, Harlan Jackson, our new principal, and you couldn't find a nicer man to dedicate a yearbook to. Since 1941 when he arrived as assistant football coach until last spring, when he was promoted to principal, he has been working for BHS. He has done everything. He has lent handkerchiefs to sobbing girls and comforted newly-jailed miscreants. He has built the settings for dances and later chaperoned them. A show in rehearsal finds him in the very back auditorium bellowing Can't hear you or in the back of the scenery, holding it up. Faculty members who have served with him through the years remember many things -how his collar-ad looks attracted the name of Gable when he first came, how the kids gave him an assembly when his first-born arrived, how he ran the school for six months when Mr. E. S. Howell died. Students remember his good-natured wit, the cuts he's bandaged, the problems he's listened to. So this book is for you, our debonair Mr. Jackson. If BHS isn't exactly the Bali Ha'i of your dreams at all times, it IS the island that is yours, and the people on that island raise a figura- tive hand in salute.
