The subjects pictured on this page were taught a cen- tury ago but not in Bellingham, which was wilderness, and not in the same manner as they are taught now. For instance, Miss Perry sometimes takes her lit class to the graveyard when reading Gray's Elegy. In the top picture, college preparatory Seniors are studying workbooks which aid them over future grammar hurdles. In the middle, Miss Bartrufrfs absorbed art class concen- trates on various projects, which might include water colors, fashion design, and miniature automobiles. Today in sewing classes, such as Mrs. Smith's pictured at the bottom, high school girls plan and execute their own skirts, suits, dresses, blouses, pajamas, play suits and even formals.
