A welcoming hand was extended to Miss Jean Parsons, who tormerly taught at Whatcom Junior High School, replacing Miss Aurora Kipperberg in the P. E. department, as well as to Miss Claudia t-lahner. replacing Miss Tryphena Warren in the clothing department. Although Miss l-lahner has taught tor three years, unintormed male students gazing into her clear blue eyes immediately torgot themselves and acted like gentle- men. Isolated in the annexes, Mel Peatherkile and Richard Burghotter introduced the mysteries ot radio and photography to eager students. Mr. Bu'ghotter is a local graduate with his own downtown studio, while Mr. Peatherkile, iack-ot-all-trades, has previously been a logger, KVOS engineer, a mem- ber ot the Coast Guard, and city police radio technician. At the end ot this year we are sorry to hear we are losing Mr. Warren Miller, commercial sub' iects, Mr. John Montgomery, geology. and Miss Margaret Diaz, who are retiring atter many years ot service. CURRICULUM curriculum ot Bellingham l-ligh. Annexes students eager to take advantage ot the necessary and expensive equipment, lured rheostats. ln tisheries they discussed the tine arts ot reet netting and pure seining. Photography classes learned various ways to produce ettective poses, and procedures in developing and enlarging their own snaps. They even imitated receptionist, photographer, developer, and to train caretul drivers and raise the odds The year I948 has seen many usetul additions to the created tor the benetit ot post graduates were opened to new and interesting courses. Radio. complete with all the the boys into struggling with electromagnetic waves and downtown studios, taking turns among themselves as the retoucher. A '47 Ford was donated by Diehl Motor Co. ot the pedestrian crossing a busy intersection. Modern guidance planning, under the direction ot Mrs. Peterson. guidance coordinator. tested all Juniors and Sophomores, enabling them to discover what weaknesses and what strong points to consider in choosing their individual careers. Although students appreciated the new vocational courses. the bulk ot them still studied the more traditional subiects. Many tound the visits to the state asylum, the naturalization court, trials and iail house instructive and worthwhile. Appreciation tor good music and art was taught as well as that well-known way to a man's heart. cooking, and its sister. sewing. while the mathematics, science. and English departments cheertully surveyed overtlowing classrooms on examination days.
