All these places had their moments With lovers and friends I still can recall. Some are dead and some are living— In my life, I’ve loved them all. But of all these friends and lovers, There i c no one who compares with you. And these memories lose their meaning When I think of love as something new. Though I know I’ll never lose affection For people and things that went before— I know I’ll often stop and think about them. In my life. si Linda Remillard, Barbara Alexander. We have but we will not go without giving you something. To you we leave the smiles of our past, the tears of present, and the colors of our future Also, we leave you a memory placed gently between the covers of his book. To you we dedicate our Yearbook. During these four years, there has been one person who has taken the great responsibility of guiding our every effort. He has helped us with our marvelous ventures over the years and his classroom has become the official headquarters of the Class of 1970. Without his advice our class would be in a state of chaos. The impression he has left cannot be removed. We now extend our thanks to our advisor, Mr. John Minichiello. In our senior year we were confronted with some major crises. There seemed to be a lack of interest among us, but someone came to give us a new spirit: he scared it out of us. He gave us what we needed to realize our responsi¬ bilities. Even before he officially became our co-advisor, he was always there to help by introducing new ideas. We shall always remember the thoughtfulness of Mr. William Mohan. Mr. Anthony Mini- chiello has attained a high degree of success through his understanding of the many problems facing a school system in a growing community. Through his time and efforts he has improved the Bellingham school system and for this he is respected by everyone. Mr. Albert A. Manning The role of a school principal is understandably a hard one to face. In his fourth year as our principal Mr. Albert Manning has attained honor and recognition in this role of importance. The responsibility of a principal is of great consequence in regard to the success or failure of a school. We can certainly say that Bellingham High has succeeded.. Mr. Gerard E. Frappier The position of assistant principal requires dedication and determi¬ nation. Mr. Gerard Frappier possesses these qualities in excess and exhibits them profusely. Mr. Frappier, through his undying efforts, has stimulated the spirits of the students at Bellingham High. Words cannot express the respect and admiration we have for this man. riia n r m ■U MR. Chapter six, verses seventeen through nineteen. ■4 Dear Abby,” Love, Shultz Heil, Miss Tom!’’ God, This is difficult’’ Class History The Class of 1970 is now facing the final step in its high school life— graduation. Four years have gone by and we now stand at the door of adult¬ hood. We worked hard to achieve our goal—a signed diploma—and now it is within our reach. We are not able to relive four years of high school, and so we are content with the memories we have acquired. But before we leave let us be permitted to review these memories. In September of 1966 we became freshmen, not knowing how we ever made it through eight years of schooling ... we were so young and eager . . . now we were able to act as the Class of 1970, but 1970 seemed so very far away. Under the guidance of our advisors, Mr. Minichiello and Mr. Cheever, we wisely chose Bradley Wong as our president, Jeremiah Padula as vice-president, Dorothy Bartolet as secretary, and Barbara Volk as treasurer . . . how would we ever be able to adjust to this new life? . . . the Freshman-Senior Get Acquainted Dance helped us a lot . . . we were told to be watchful of the seniors, but we also realized that someday we would be just like them . . . we all loved those fantastic basketball games . . . final exams came soon . . . our freshman year had ended after much instruction and anticipation. Sophomore year . . . 1967-68 ... no longer the school babies . . . First on our agenda for the new year was elections . . . elected were Bradley Wong, president; Paul Hennessey, vice-president; Elizabeth Kelly, secretary; Diane Roy, treasurer ... all capable of making the year a prosperous one. Soon we were plagued by the PSAT’s . . . how can SAT’s be more diffi¬ cult?? !! . . . soon we would find out . . . Dissections were a common thing in biology class, that is . . . woeful cries of I think I’m going to be sick” and Really sir, I can’t bear to touch it” prevailed through the duration of the course ... In March, we had our first taste of Career Days” . . . the girls just couldn’t understand why they weren’t granted permission to hear the Armed Forces’ speakers. To raise money, we found ourselves raffling off a pool table . . . It’s the finest pool table in the world,” The lucky person who wins this pool table is sure to become a pro” . . . those and more were our persuasive sales pitches ... In May, the Class of 1970 held its very first dance . . . considering the fact that we had no idea how a dance was run, we made out quite favorably. Finally we were measured for our class rings . . . our only dissatisfaction was the long wait before receiving them. Then we were juniors . . . 1968 ... 69 ■■ ■ displaying our shiny class rings proudly ... to us they were the symbols of upperclassmen . . . Leading us on were Bradley Wong, president; Paul Hennessey, vice-president; Elizabeth Kelly, secretary; Diane Roy, treasurer . . . nothing could stand in our way now. Our candy sale at the beginning of the year turned out to be a success . . . and who can forget those car washes . . . Mr. Mohan seemed to enjoy every one . . . next came our play, The Diary of Anne Frank” ... we really proved that we were capable of taking on responsibilities . . . thanks again, Mr. Crepeau . . . After waiting three long years we held our first prom . . . Deborah Martin was chairman, co-chairman was Dorothea Ferrone . . . Youll Never Walk Alone” was chosen as our theme . . . Reina Garvin was crowned queen and Larry Minnis, king. The tension was beginning to mount concerning post-graduation plans . . . we took so many tests . . . College Boards proved to be a new experience . . . Well, we were almost there . . . final exams and then suddenly our junior year ended with a feeling of excitement, knowing that we would soon be called seniors. Senior year . . . 1969-70 . . . suddenly we found ourselves on a double¬ session schedule ... in our seats for 7:30, out by 12:10 . . . SENIOR PRIVILEGES . . . open studies ... to the surprise of everyone, it lasted . . . Advisors for our final year were Mr. Minichiello and Mr. Mohan . . . Before elections we sponsored the annual Freshman-Senior Get Acquainted Dance to honor the incoming freshman . . elections were held the following week . . . elected were Bradley Wong, president; Richard Ranieri, vice-president; Eliza¬ beth Kelly, secretary; Diane Roy, treasurer . . . Kathy Bernardi was voted Sr. Prom Chairman and Dorothea Ferrone, Co-chairman. In October, we found ourselves washing cars to boost our funds ... if you recall, cars weren’t the only things which were washed that day ... We also sponsored a hay ride . . . everyone was completely astounded by the size of the bonfire . . . The Program Committee busied itself by making food baskets v and distributing them to needy families for Thanksgiving. Flowers for Algernon” was the title of our Sr. Class Play . . . the cast was truly superb and both performances were tremendously received . . . Mr. Crepeau, who directed, did a fine job ... In keeping with the Christmas season, our class sold Christmas trees ... if you hurry, we may still be able to sell you a nice one . . . We tuned up our voices for caroling and made many of the elderly and disabled very happy . . . Remember stuffing the group into Mrs. Ferrelli’s house for coffee, and the party we had afterward?? After the New Year, as we were measured for caps and gowns, we realized that soon Senior Week would be upon us . . . sure enough, it was . . . the trip to Frank Davis’s . . . our Commencement, Romeo and Juliet’ . . . the apprehension . . . what were once realities are now memories . . . memories full of meaning for all of us . . . we realize now that in our lives, we’ll love them all. A car wash was held for a fund-raising activity as well as the selling of key chains and posters. New mem¬ bers of both the junior and senior classes were brought into the so¬ ciety by the annual induction on March 2. A buffet was served and entertainment was provided by the chorus. National Honor Society ✓ The Sounds of Scripture” is truly a credit to Bellingham High. The ambition, originality, and initiative of the mem¬ bers of the Newspaper Staff cannot possibly be beat by any other school around. Newspaper Staff Editor Christine LeBeau, Co-Editor Pauline Riendeau The Staff Starting off the year with renewed enthusiasm sparked by new advisors and meetings during school, the Student Council initiated the idea of allowing girls to wear slacks for the first time in Bellingham. They held the annual Christmas Show and formed their own Constitution. Hampered by the lack of funds, the Council held a successful candy sale. The Student Council went on to further plans and the students en¬ joyed the toboggan party-dance, and a Folk-Rock Festival. They ended the fruitful year with a banquet. Their goals are to better understand and appreciate the school and its system. The club is limited in its activities for they are keyed to expose to the students different phases of the teaching profession. This year, many members participated in the teacher assistant program and also observed teachers at the various elementary schools. i! Future Teachers of America I 92 Mr. Guernon—Advisor, Dora Tosches—Vice President, Marsha Bennett—Secretary, Bradley Wong—President, Mr. Kearnan—Advisor, and Deborah Rhodes—Treasurer. The Math Club is new to our school this year, and has introduced a new phase of competition with various schools in the area. For a relatively new club, it has been quite active: it seems evident that it will gain even more importance in the future, and this endeavor will un¬ doubtedly bring us a type of scholastic honor never before attainable. The Drama Club had an ex¬ cellent year with the production of three one act plays. The Sen¬ iors chose Death of a Hired Man,” Juniors Nightmare’ and the Sophomores and Freshmen Sorry Wrong Number.” The play, Monkeys Paw” was per¬ formed by the club in State Com¬ petition. The French Club, under the direction of Mrs. Val¬ orie, has had one of its most successful years. Fund raising activities included cake sales and a very clever idea of having a French Cafe in the auditorium. Many seniors and teachers enjoyed taking part in this activity during studies and free periods. The members also enjoyed a trip to a French Restaurant. 95 r r, «V U.tfT k s 96 This year’s Chorus was the best Bellingham High School has ever seen. Last Fall many members com¬ peted with other schools for a place in the South¬ eastern District Chorus. The performances made throughout the year included Parent’s Night, Christ¬ mas Concert, National Honor Society Induction and the Annual Spring Concert. For the first time the Chorus consisted of both male and female voices. Many more boys are needed. Paul Robinson Captain Greg Graves makes a move. Chess Club The Chess Club, led by Coach Mr. Chee- ver and Captain Greg Graves, has had an¬ other successful season. For the third year in a row, the team captured the Mostek Trophy from Mt. St. Charles. Their record was 3 wins and 4 losses and they were in 2nd place for the Blackstone Division of the South Shore Chess League. Ski Club Headed by Miss Fiore and Mr. Mohan, the Ski Club schussed into a fine season. The major activity of the year was the annual ski trip. This year we again journeyed to Mount Snow for sunny day of skiing. Despite a few minor catastrophes, everyone enjoyed himself immensely and no one wanted to depart. Additional day trips to nearby slopes were planned for the remainder ' of the season. (M L f r W Advisors Mr. Mohan and Miss Fiore President Bernard Menendez Vice President JoAnn Daniel Secretary Pauline Riendeau T reasurer Anne Bernier In its second year at Bellingham High the Art Club is advised by Miss Jeanne Stevens. Officers are Linda Minnis, president; Veronica Allen, vice president; Julie Bouffard, secretary; and Pauline Gareau, treasurer. They work with kites, rubbings, and ceramics. Also many other medias of art not usual to the classroom are used. This year the Athletic Asso¬ ciation has been a tremendous asset to the spirit and morale of the school. Their enthusiasm for the school was only sur¬ passed by their ingenuity. When the atmosphere of the school was cold, the A.A. was there to warm our spirits by selling hot coffee and snack. They also sold flowers and a countless number of tickets to benefit the school. The Library Aides spend most of their free time helping Mrs. Kelly with the numerous tasks of maintaining an orderly library. If it were not for the efficiency of the aides, Mrs. Kelly would find it nearly impossible to manage all the necessary work. 102 The Audio Visual Aides, under the direction of Mr. Morin, supply classrooms with record players, projectors, and screens. Led by Tri-Captains Brad Wong, Larry Minnis, and Pete Martel the Blackhawks tradition of a winning season was upheld with an excellent overall record of 14 wins— 3 losses, and a T.V.C. record of 13 wins—3 losses. Bob Satch” McDaniel, the league’s leading scorer, and Larry Minnis did most of the reboundin and scoring. Bruce Crepeau, Brad Wong, and Pete Martel did a great job of setting up plays. Al Ricciardi and Paul Peterson filled in well when needed. The Hawks’ tough zone defense stopped many an opponent. Graduation losses are Tri-Captains Brad Wong, Larry Minnis, and Pete Martel. From a last place finish in 1968, the girls battled to a three way tie for first place in the Tri- Valley Conference. Led by Captain Chris Spont, they ended the year by tying with Nipmuc and Medway to whom they had lost in the regular season. Along with excellent coaching. Coach Woods felt she had the best battery in the league with M.V.P. Caroline Mazur on the mound and Diane Verhoest behind the plate. Finishing the year with an excellent overall record of 8 wins-3 losses, and a league record of 6 wins-2 losses. Coach Woods predicts that next year she’ll have an even better team. Pre¬ season favorites to top the league, but injuries and a shuffled infield prevented the Hawk’s from capturing another champion¬ ship. Co-Captain A1 Dann’s sore arm ruined his chances of bet¬ tering his 4-0 record. Also sharing mound duties were Co-Captain Bob Dupre, Mark Karakeian, and Denny McLaughlin. The team ended the year with an overall record of 10-7 and a league record of 10-4. Leading the offensive attack were Dave Karakeian, Phil Skrzat, A1 Dann, and Don Galuza. Defensively, Bill Fournier, John Zinno, and Denis Hardy, came up with some great plays to stop the opposition. Next year the Hawk ' s team will have only five lettermen returning. Coach Canestrari will center ' his team around Mark Karakeian and Bill Brisson for battery mates, Denis Hardy in the infield, and Bill Fournier and Brad Wong in the outfield. Canestrari hopes to receive some help from the J-V squad to bolster his team. 135 Coach Canestrari and the 1969 BlackHawks. Ya man, whadya want? Nipmuc . Hopedale Hopkinton . . . Blackstone . . .
