By Kenneth Young and Marcelle Fleuette Class Colors: White and Gold Class Flov .r: Rose Class Marshall: Lucille Poirier Class Advisor: William Conlan Class Motto: He that walketh uprightly, walketh surely. I ■ f l 1542523 As I was lounging in my apartment in the Hotel New Yorker, my maid handed the telephone to me. It was Gerald Pantano, one of my former classmates and ' now one of the riche st men in America, He explained that he had Just bought a yacht, the SS Bellingham, and was going to ask a few of our friends from the Class of 1953 to go on a month ' s tour to the West Indies. He said his valet, Donald Short, would contact the others and make arrangements.I was delighted. We were to meet the next evening at Gerry ' s man¬ sion on Long Island Sound and leave from there the next morning. As soon as I said good-bye to ' Gerry, I called my good friend Barbara Castagnaro, a famous broadway actress, to go shopping at the attractive salon of Madame Marcelle. (M arcelle Fleuette, a former classmate, was a famous exclusive clothes designer.) I was pleased when Bats said she would Join me. W’e greeted Marce at the door and asked her if she could possibly Join us on the tour. She said she would love to. I asked her if she could have a few of the models show us some aporooriate styles. She motioned tc two of them,Pat Turner, and Peggy Short. We weren ' t surprised to see them as models because of their sparkling per¬ sonalities, to say nothing of their gorgeous figures. They in¬ formed us that they intended to make a career of modeling. After they had shown us some divine creations,Babs asked for the man¬ ager to inquire if we could have the clothes the next day. Lil¬ lian Gladu walked out and told us that she was the Manager. She said she liked her Job very much. We knew that she would do well because of her fine business ability. She assured us that our creations would be ready the very next day. And with that Babs and I departed from the salon. As it was getting late in the afternoon, Babs suggested we drop into a little coffee shop, which we learned Rita Blain owned. Rita, who used to work at the Donut Kettle, thought she would try her hand at it and was doing very well. The head waitress, Jennette Gaskill, walked over for our orders. We asked her if she had heard about any of our classmates lately. She said Felice DIPletro and Barbara Clancy had ooened aBeauty Salon recently. She also said Bob Nutilng was a sports announcer on T.V. and Paul Petrosky had Just been offered a major league con¬ tract with the Dodgers, which Jimmy Hachey was managing. We gave Jan our order, drank our coffee, and then went to Babs ' apartment for a quiet evening. I picked up the paper and saw on the Society Page, w ' here Roy Gavassc, of the Red Sox, married into high society. It also stated that Frances Locklin, an important business executive in the textile Industry, was best man for the couple. Babs tuned in the television and we heard Mr. Paul Trudeau giving a super-duper sales talk about the one and only GLorophyll Cigar. Paul was now using his vocabulary to great advantage. Next, Paul introduced the Man with the Smooth Trumpet, Cscar Leblanc and his orchestra. Oscar, who always did play very well is now superb and really dreamy. It was getting pretty late and since I had to go to work early tomorrow, I left for my own apartment. The next morning I av oke very excited. I realized it was tonight we were to meet at Gerry’s mansion. I was eager to see the old gang again. I already knew that Clark Meotti, who had just been discharged from the Navy, would be the captain of the yacht. I was still very curious about the others. I went to work but could hardly write my gossip column at the New York Times because I was so excited. My boss told me that my columns would have to be a bit more vivacious because my rival, D©1 Vanasse, was gossip ccluminst for our rival newspaper, which Kenny Young published. The editor. Drew Palmer, was also a former classmate. That night finally came and I was dressed way ahead of time. Babs and I waited patiently for Gerry’s chauffeur to pick us up. The car, a brand new Cadillac guaranteed to do 150 miles per hour, finally arrived. Ralph Maus was already in the car. He was going on the trip to make a report on trapping conditions in the ‘est Indies for an important sport ' s magazine. As we were cruising along at 110 pe , we were signalled to the side of the road by a motorcycle policeman. The policeman was Maurice Godin. Moe had become such an ardent motorcycler that he had made it his career. We explained about the trip and that we were already late; He forgave the chauffeur for speeding and gave us a police escort to the mansion. After that long ride, we arrived safe and sound. The first one to greet us was Prances Walker. Frances told us that she and Janet Crooks were teaching at old Bellingham High. Frances was head of the Commercial Department and Janet was head of the Home Economics Department and they liked their work very much. Then Larry Leach strolled up to meet us. He told us he was now pro¬ prietor of the Chase Oil Company, by v hich he was once employed. He also said Albert Marcet was coaching an undefeated Blackstone team. Larry said Sam LaVoie and Gerry Gagnon had gone on tele¬ vision as comedians, but Gerry didn’t like it. He is now de¬ signing jet automobiles. We all remember the wonderful automobiles he used to draw. Claire Trottier and Estelle Beauregard came in and said they were happily married and each had two children. At that time Gerry told us of the promotion of Brad Rowe to the head of the Electrical Engineering Department in Gerry’s Company. Before we retired, we talked about old times and how success¬ ful everyone had been. As we left for our rooms, we thought about the wonderful West Indies Cruise; God willing. Constance Crooks 1542523 Turn back the hands of time Roll. back the s nds of tine Bring back our dream d3vine Let’s live it over again. Turn back those hands of ti : re to September 1949, when we entered our Freshman year at Bellingham High School. Our first shvness w«s gone, however, as we h°d studied here for two pre¬ vious years as seventh and‘eighth grade students; yet hich scnool was to be a. new adventure for us. We h Q d now rown un and our responsibilities had become more evident. With noisy greetings our friendships were renewed. We soon settled down to study with our respected clas advisor, -Tr. Ionian. We became a united group under the direction of the following class officers: President ranees Walker, Vi e-ores- ident Fstelle Beauregard, Secretary Jean looker, Treasurers Al¬ bert Marcet and Barbra ra Castagna.ro, and Student Council Renpe- --’entatives Maurice odin and Yvette Oelinas. urs was a l r--e cl a so nnd a little noisv at times, but we enloved everv event oo s s i b l o Our first social affair, the Freshman Acoua.intance Party, sponsored by the Seniors, was our reward for obeying their every wish. After initiation was over we felt that we had been duly established as freshmen. Our studies were not overlooked because the thought of exams mede us realize that education came first. After the trying period was over we held our first social function, the Valen¬ tine Dance. It was a ore a t success nd we were proud that our first event had turned out so well. June came much too nuicklv. We bade our friends good-bye, hopinp- to see them again as Sophomores. Our Sophomore year oroved to be a busy one. We had to pur¬ sue more difficult studies in order to make the grade. The outcome cf our class elections was: President, Frances Walker; Vice-president, Paul Petroskv; Secretary, Janet Crooks; Trea¬ surer, Albert Marcet; Student Council Representatives, Oscar Leblanc and Marcelle Fleuette. Mr. Conlan returned as class advisor. Our social functions that year, The Thanksgiving Dance and turkey raffle, netted a large profit for our treasury. Later in the vear at the Sonhomore Banouet evervone ate chick- i en to his heart’s content. V inter brought basketball and all its exciting games. The many practice sessions brought forth our best plavers. Next came fin l exams, a trip to Nantasket, and sum tier. 1542523 I I a one was another year as the hands of time drew nearer to the present. September came again and we took the third step towards the top of the ladder. Guiding us through our Junior year were: President Frances Walker, Vice-president Paul Pet- rosky, Secretary Janet Crooks, Treasurer Maurice Godin, and Student Council Representatives Marcelle Fleuette and Oscar Le¬ blanc. Mr. Conlan was ,our class advisor. A louder buzz than usual was heard in the corridor that day. Why?? The Juniors had received their class rings and were showing those prized possessions to everyone. Our Halloween Barn Dance proved to be a huge success both socially and fin¬ ancially. In slacks and dungarees, everyone enjoyed the gay affair. Basketball season found A1 Marcet, Paul Petroskv and Bob t ts Nutting as varsity men? with DrewPalner, Ken Young, Sonny :e- otti and Jimmy Hachev a§ subs. Peggy Short joined Jan Crooks on the cheering squad). The highlight of this year was our Junior Prom. After much careful planning, the long awaited evening arrived, and we found it well worth our every effort. We chose ’’Blue Moon” as our theme and decorated the auditorium accordingly. Our hearts were gay as we danced under the soft lights in our beautiful gowns- to the soft strains of Bob Wilbur ' s Orchestra. Barbara Castagna.ro was chosen oueen. Our first formal was a memorable one. With the advent of soring came baseball. The diamond spark¬ led with Juniors that year. Days soed by as our Junior year came to a close. Another class had graduated. Could it be possible we were next? Seniors at last. That day of days had finally come. To carrv out the duties ofour Senior vear we elected: President X - Frances Walker, Vice-president Oscar Leblanc, Secretary Janet Crooks, Treasurer Maurice Godin, and Student Council Represent¬ atives Marcelle Fleuette and Brad Rowe. We were still under the caoable leadership of Mr. Conlan. This was our last year at Bellingham High School. What a big one it has proven to be ' . Our studies were not neglected as other arduous tasks were well done. With our hearts set on a Washington trip in Anril and the assembling of the yearbook, wp oo-o er ted in many money-making ventures to accumulate enough funds to cove our expenses. Dances, food sales, candy sales, oaper drives, whist parties, a bazaar, a musical and a rlav we e all nrojects undertaken to make our elans oossible. Mistletoe nine boughs and st-reaners beautified the ' audi- t.orluTi for the Chri etnas Bell. Drew Palner end Peggy Short were chosen king and queen. How can one fail to reeenher that enchanted evening? — 1542523 Basketball was t e talk-of-the-town this year. The five co-captains, Drew Palmer, A1 Marcet, Bob Nutting, Paul Petrosky and en Young, with the aid of Sonny Meotti, Jimmy Hachev, and Donny Short, were our star athletes and proved their ability in becoming champions. Never will they be forgotten. Janet Crooks and Pegcry Short did their share of cheering the boys on to their many victories. The Epilogue staff, under the capable guidance of our Editor- In-Chief, Maurice Godin, met constantly to collect and arrange material for our yearbook. No dream was ever realized so completely as ours was the day we departed for Washington. The towering skyline of New York was vastly inspiring. The National Capitol, with its beautiful buildings and historic background, will always be a treasured memory. A visit to Annapolis was included in our itinerary. We surely were impressed with this beautiful coun¬ try of ours. This had been a wonderful trip from beginning to end . The magnetic force of baseball brought Paul Petrosky, Ken Young, A1Marcet, Drew Palmer, Roy Gavasso, Sonny Meotti, Jim¬ my Hachey and Franny Locklin to the diamond. We were at ev- ery frame cheering them to victory for the last time. Time has closed in on us and here it is June with final ex¬ ams and part of Commencement Week behind us. Gone is the laughter and gaiety which make us so carefree. There was an air of sadness mingled wlth our excitement aa we prepared for our Commencement Week. We will always have treasured memories of our Class Banquet, held last night at the Meadows Mour Class Night, tonight; our Class Trip, tomorrow, and Commencement, Thursday. With gratitude we will receive our diplomas and leave Bellingham High School in farewell. The Class of 1953, now Alumni of Bellingham High School. The team played a total of twenty-five games, win¬ ning twenty-two while losing three. Coach Frank Flynn welcomed eight seniors to the squad which included five Co-Captains. The five Co-Captains were Paul Pe- trosky, Bob Cutting, Kenny Young, Drew Palmer, and A1 Marcet. The underclassmen on the team were Roger Canestrari,Henry Schwenker, Alan Tuttle, Jimmy Mazdrachl, and Ronny Koloski. The team won four out of six games before Christmas vaca¬ tion. But after vacation the team rolled along undefeated, win¬ ning thirteen straight. The Blackhawks wound up with a seventeen and two record for the regular schedule. Then the Blackhawks be¬ gan their- tournament play. They entered the Massachusetts small and medium schools tournament, Class D. They won their first two games but lost in the semi-finals in Lynn. Then came the Assump¬ tion College invitation tournament in Worcester,Class B. After winning their first two games, the Blackhawks beat Shewsbury High by one point for the crown. Again this year they retained the Woonsocket Retail Trade Board Trophy beating Blackstone. They also received the Denise W. Howard Memorial Plaque by beating Franklin. The team was awarded, at the close of the season,a banquet by the citizens of the town. Each player received a jacket, and wrist watch, and souvenir basketball. Prospects look bright for another good season with many experienced veterans returning. We sincerely hope the Blackhawks can repeat in 19pA % The Javees won 9 games and lost 1C. layers were: J.Chllscyzk,B.Mowry,E. Des- champs,R.Bernlch,J.Scaccia,T.Duprex,A.Thibodeau,R.Czella,B. Flynn, beginning his second year as baseball coach, called for candidates in early April. At a meeting of the letter men, A1 Forte was elected captain. Andy Gregoire was also on the team. Of this years seniors there were nine players - Paul Petrosky, A1 Marcet, Drew Palmer, Kenny Young, Sonny Meotti, Jimmy Hachey, Bradley Rowe, Francis Locklln, and Roy Gavasso. Bellingham was again in the Trl County League with West- wood, Millis, Medway,Medfleld, and Hopedale. Exhibition g ' mes with Franklin and Blackstone were also played. After losing their first three games the team began to pick up stride and won their next seven games. Then the team ran.into a little trouble and lost their last four games. In league competition, the team wound up in second place, with a seven and three re¬ cord, behind Westwood with an eight and two record. The com¬ plete season record was seven wins and seven loses. There were two thrilling games over the stretch. First of all, A1 Forte pitched a no hit,no run, game against Millis. Bellingham won the game three to nothing. The second was a sixteen inning game against Blackstone as Kenny Young pitched fifteen innings and A1 Forte finished. After nine i nnings, the score was tied two to two. In the fifteenth inning both teams scored one run. ' Bellingham lost the long game as Black¬ stone added another run in the sixteenth inning to win four to three. Tt was a fighting’ team not giving uo until the last out was made. The team, tryed hard to win the championship but Just fell short. The prospects, with many veterans returning to Coach Flynn for the 1952-1953 season, look brighter for even a better season.
