Within each dream is a constant struggle towards greatness. Dreams are the speculations of our past and the hopes for our future. Each moment into the past brings us added strength with each treasured memory. Dreams fill us with happiness, prosperity and love. A safeness and security that dwells in each of our hearts. it i ' ' ' «f •r . j Dreams are the childish fantasies of places unknown and faces unseen. Dreams reveal the wonderment of our vast oceans and snow covered peaks, inspiring us towards higher achievements. J All that we have, the love, the securities, and all that we will obtain is revealed to each of us in a single, precious dream. Dedication — Mrs. Lora Pugh It is especially appropriate for the graduating class of 1977 to pause and give special thanks to Mrs. Lora Pugh who, for the past four years, has been our activities clerk in charge of bookkeeping and of A.S.B. account and trust funds. She answered phones, paid all bills, coordinated student activities, put out the daily bulletin, answered students ' questions, solved students ' problems, and, in the process, managed to smile. In response to a student ' s question What do you do all day? she replied, What don ' t 1 dol We ' d fall apart if she weren ' t herel remarked George Prince, principal. We gratefully and lovingly dedicate our 76-77 annual to Mrs. Lora Pugh. i J r- Senior Class Officers Top: Sherry Jimso, Sec. of Pub.; Stan Klemchuck, Sgt. at Arms; Jane Hashimoto, Sec. of Act.;Lani Mandas, I.C.C, Rep. ; Kathy Kane, Sec. Starting the long awaited Senior year, the class of 77 showed its dominance of BHS by its constant control of the spirit stick. As the year progressed, the Seniors contributed thrills and laughter by holding their annual Pizza Hoot and Ice Cream Social. Fighting hard, the Senior girls looked for a triumphant Football Victory, while the guys delighted the crowed with their inspiring routines. The Senior Class held this year ' s Christmas Dance at the Elks Club Lodge of Long Beach. While highly spirited couples danced to the music of Elefante, Mistletoe and merry fa la la la la ' s filled the room. As time grew near for the Seniors ' final farewell to BHS, they looked forward to graduation. . .not as an ending, but as a beginning. _ nolar of the Year: Dan Koberle In addition to being selected as Mr. Success by his fellow seniors, Dan Koberle was also chosen as Scholar of the Year by the faculty at BHS. Dan has been in- volved in many activities on campus. He functioned as the manager of the basket- ball team for four years and contributed to the BLADE as a reporter. He was es- pecially honored his senior year by being named the Chief Justice on the Student Court. Dan plans to attend U. C. Irvine where he will major in physics. Dan will long be remembered at Bellflower High School not only as a scholar but also as a super person. His school life has been active and successful. We wish him this same success in his future. Mr. Moore has been at BHS for thirteen years and says that the class of 77 is the greatest bunch of students at Bellflower High School. The class of 77 showed their pride and spirit as freshman with their successful candy sale and with their 1st place homecoming float. As sophomores their highlites were the Ice Cream Social and also their winning Home- coming float. Their junior year was the Prom and senior year the Christmas dance and anoth- er winning homecoming float. The seniors went on to prove their Buc Pride with the spirit stick being a constant possession of the seniors. In asking Mr. Moore how he likes being advisor he answered, I love every minute of it!! Hard-working and understanding describes sen- ior class counselor Tom Flood. Mr. Flood feels that his job as senior class counselor is to guide, discipline, be there when someone needs you and sometimes say no. The key is to listen. It is something you must remind yourself to do every- day and not loose sight of. Mr. Flood feels that actual development has to come for the individu- al and that the class of 77 has accomplished it far better than other classes. Mr. Flood said, Watching and helping 400 young people develop from freshmen to seniors has been the greatest challenge and reward I have experienced. CO I— I at Work Many hours of hard work were devoted by this year ' s Ensemble. Their activities not only included singing, but also money raising projects such as pizza sales, tumbler sales, and concerts. . . B.H.S. Ensemble . . . Their hard work was well -rewarded as they delighted audiences both at school and in the community. They performed at Knott ' s Berry Farm, the Do vney Music Festival, resthomes, PTA groups, and local elementary schools. The highlight of the year was their long awaited and well-deserved trip to Washington where they competed in the Columbia Bass in and Jazz Festival in Pasco. and at Play Modern Dance The young ladies in Modern Dance displayed their graceful abilities in three major presentations. Under the direction of Ms. Berardo, the girls performed for the Octo- ber Fest, the Dance Show on February 23, and the Fashion Show on Januar ' 13. Carol Lyons, Bev Lee, Michell Garrett, Nancy Risley, Karen Ford, Jerri Wyble, Renee Rowley, Debbie Mauer, Claudia Adair, Tammy Reed. The talented group, directed by Gary Scott, performed for the AEC luncheon and the Combined Spring Festival with the Jr. High earlier in the year. Their fall concert featured a number with Jazz Ensemble. Professional showmanship along with having fun was the goal of Jazz Band this year. Tear Along the Dotted Line With the help of student director Pam Clements, Mr. Newman and his crew put on the comedy play Tear Along the Dotted Line which premiered December 1 in the Little Theatre. Li ' l Abner The Drama department and the Music department joined forces to produce a musical for the annual All School Play. This was the first musical in 10 years for B. H.S. Nearly 80 B. H.S. students (Actors and Musicians) and 10 faculty members dedicated many hours of hard work to produce the musical Lil Abner. This very success- ful play was presented in the little theatre March 22 through the 26. It was certainly enjoyed by the many who attended, and will be remembered forever by all who participated. You will not really want to be in school as much as you long to have those wonderful years at Bellflower High repeated. Many of you will be returning to the campus on Homecoming, athletic events, musicals, and dra- ma productions. Remember, as a Buccaneer you will always be welcome. Thank you for carrying out all the Buc traditions and for the contributions the Class of 1977 have given to the history of Bellflower High. May you always have the success you earn, and remember the quotation from former President Theodore Roosevelt, The only person who never makes a mistake is the person who never does anything. John Helbling B.A. Minister of Music ANNUAL ADVISOR MRS. RITA BARTON Mrs. Rita Barton, Annual Advisor. What can fifteen students say about one person. She ' s done more than her share as Annual Advisor, She is someone I can turn to if I have a problem, She ' s strict, She has a genuine concern for her students, We are going to miss her. These are to name a few. Her past three years as the Annual Advisor have been hard, but through her guidance, Bellflower High has produced the best annuals ever seen. We would like to thank her at this time for the many hours she has spent on and off the job to help us. We in Annual Staff love her very much and would like to wish her the very best of luck in her new career, Motherhood. What was only a dream in September finally became a reality on March 28 as we met our final deadline. Another volume of the BHS annual is assured a treasured place on the shelf with its predecessors, thanks to the hard work of a dedicated staff. As the year comes to a close, we the staff feel that we have well achieved this year ' s dream. There are a number of people that have helped us in this accomplishment. We would like to offer a special thanks to Mr. Stitts and Mr. Adotta for all the art work they have given us and to Mr. Ray King for his help with the bids for our Sweetheart Ball. Thanks go to Karl Ramm, David Bragg, and Mr. Don Moore for their help with photography. A Big Kiss goes to Mrs. Pugh for all her extra help and support. Thanks to Cars of the Stars: for both their facilities and generosity. We would like to thank our staff, who worked so hard and put in so much time of their own. We appre- ciate every one of you. A Big Thanks goes to Cassia Graham and Caryl Price for sticking out three years with us. We love you both. There is one very special person, to whom we owe much. Mrs. Rita Barton has been a great friend and advisor. We wish her the very best of luck. To next year ' s staff, may your dreams come true. . .
