Mr John Thompson BM Univ. of Arizona New teachers and new courses marked the development of the Fine Arts Department. The new Fine Arts Survey Course brought team teaching to the department. Mr. Lowder and Mr. Moore set up the course that hopes to tie together the subjects of Art, Drama, Music and Philosophy. The new teachers, all young, dynamic and well liked, offered a fine addition to the department. Mr. Long, from Indiana, gave the photo classes exciting and new ideas about photography. Mr. Addotta and Mrs. Powell both from California, challenged students with modern and unusual forms of Art. The display of work in the new Mini-Gallery were enjoyed by all throughout the year. Mr. Thompson, from Arizona, brought some wonderful moments to the Choir and Glee classes and we will always remember the fine display of talent at the football game half-time show where their songs brought the fans to their feet for a standing ovation. Mrs. Gibbs added depth to the Drama classes by working with Mr. Newman in classes and on produc- tions. Mr. Robert Newman BS USC Going on safari Mr. Moore? A. fwXfeifes Mr. Roy King Mr. Arthur Btevick BA UCSB, MA Long Beach BA, MA Iowa State State Mr. Alvin Stout BA Washington State Industrial Arts Education is that part of the program at BHS con- cerned with providing youth an op- portunity to use tools and materials in constructing articles and perform- ing jobs, and to develop an under- standing of our modern industrial society. BHS offers the following courses in I.A.: auto, machine, and wood shop, architectural and mechanical drawing, drafting, engineering draft- ing, electronics, and graphic arts. One of the more popular classes in I.A. is the Electronics II class. This class is concerned with two-way radio communications on a hobby level. Ham radio. The objective of the class is to encourage and help students obtain their FCC license so that they can communicate with other '■Hams'' around the world. The Electronics class has their own ham radio station which students with FCC licenses may use. Another high light of the I.A. De- partment is Project Christmas , sponsored by the wood shop. Under the direction of Mr. Brevick, the wood shop students construct over a hun- dred multi-colored animal rockers each year, which are donated to various charitable organizations at Christmas time. BHS is one of the few schools that offers an Advanced General Science course which enables interested students to take physi- ology and physics in their junior and senior years. A Consumer Chemistry class is being planned for future juniors and seniors not planning to attend college. It would be an attempt to offer a general background in everyday chemistry which is needed by the terminal students of today.
