As we see our Seniors of ’64 leave us at B.H.S. we hope that we have gained an Alumni which i$ proud to come back and see our new and upcoming classes show our abilities as a school of honor both scholastically and athletically. ADMUNISlTRAirOON Am G ctynunr W §®[PK]®M® [I§ id mo®® DU® j)(!J)mq®®§ M 5 Our 1964 Treasure Chest is dedicated to a man we all know and to a man that we all like — Mr. Art Ed- wards. Mr. Edwards has been a counselor for six years in Bellflower High School and has become known as the man to lend a helping hand whatever the emergency. We marvel at Mr. Edwards' ability to remember names and faces and we feel as a student body that he must like each of us to remember us. Mr. Edwards is always a gentleman, is always cheerful, and acts like he enjoys his work. His sincere warmth radiates so that his presence is always welcome and respected. Mr. Edwards willingly gives his time to student acti- vities and is always there. He has dedicated his life to others and he welcomes the opportunity to help any student at any time. For his devotion to our Student Body it is our plea- sure to honor him with the dedication of our 1964 an- nual. 6 Shelia While Advisor Ken Cleek Ediior 8ctiy Oobson nrn.„Wi,w AS® PAOWLinr Mr. Charles Kendlc Assistant Superintendent Mr. Jock Dovis Assistant Superintendent Or. Large in number, but larger yet were to be our accomplishments. From that first day in September our diligent group set records at B.H.S. that have never before been reached and probably will not be equaled in many years. The first year in Inter-Class Track competition, we scored higher than any previous Freshman Class has ever scored at B.H.S. The following three years we whopped the other classes. Never before has any class fared so well in this event. Our accomplishments were not only in the field of athletics. We also ex- celed in the field of academics. We have more honor roll students. Seal Bearers, and Phi Beta Kappas than any other class from our school. Our twenty-five Seal Bearers almost doubles the old record. In our Senior year we sponsored a very successful Christmas Dance, ' Yule- tide n Mistletoe,” which some people have compared to certain past proms. We threw a fantastic Sweethearts Ball at which everyone enjoyed themselves im- mensely. We enjoyed a frolicking Senior Ditch Day at Newport Dunes. To top the year off we had a fabulous all night graduation party at Disneyland. 27 Television cameras focused on Senior Square. Junior-Senior sweater. To draw a labored breath. To find release from daily cares In what we know as death . . . Is this the crowning of a life. The aim or end thereof? The totaled sum of consciousness. The ripened fruit of love? It cannot be, for works of God Are wrought for nobler ends. And those away continue on In the hearts of kin and friends. It cannot be, for they live on A little step away. The soul, the everlasting life. Has found a better day . . . 67 O.J. First Semester © mm m CILASS «TOOT The active Junior Class started off the year with the annual Howdy Hop which proved to be outstanding as new friendships were created and old friendships renewed. As they continued through the 1963-64 school year the class sponsored the Donkey Basketball game with fine success. The Junior Class received their Junior Sweaters with great enthusiasm. The sweaters were charcoal trimmed in white. In February the long awaited Senior rings came. The blue stones accenting the Buccaneer ships were worn upside down as the tradition goes. The highlight of the year came on May 23rd, with the Junior-Senior Prom. The prom, Un Soir D'amour (Evening of Love), held at Long Beach Elks Club put an outstanding end to a year of enjoyable activities. As Sophomores, the class sponsored activity nights and sock hops with success. When called upon to contribute to the United Fund Drive the class gave generously. They sold Booster Buttons to put the finishing touches on a wonderful year. During their Freshman year, excited and a little new to the game, they spomore$L 5ply a few activities. The activities mat the class did sponsor turngcDout very well and-were enjoyed by all. i 76 MM®® QA President Dick Holden Vice-President Dan Randolph Secretary Cynthia Dyre Treasurer Darla Pemberton Secretary of Pub. This spirit has echoed through the halls of B.H.S. for two years and was reflected in the successful Homecoming events. The Sophomores bought the flowers for the princesses and the crown for the queen, and a banner which was carried in the Homecoming Parade. They also made the throne for the queen. Another high point of the year was the inter-class competition in the United Fund Drive. The Sophomores tied the Freshmen and were awarded Senior Square for a day. The class of 1966 has a bright and unlimited future before them. Vice-President Cathy Castro Treasurer Janice Walker ©M®M®®! Cll Bellflower s Cee football team under the tutelage of mastermind Rogers Lindley, rolled over nine suc- cessive opponents in compiling the only perfect mark in Buccaneer grid history. At the beginning of the season the Bucs whipped John Glenn in a scrimmage 42-0. Then the Cees traveled to Artesia where the host Pioneers managed to grind out a grand total of four yards during a 34-0 rout by Bellflower. In two other pre-league games the Buccaneers rifled Whittier 41-7 and shut out cross-town rival Mayfair 21-0. Although Santa Fe forfeited to Bellflower, the two teams fought it out anyway. The Chiefs bowed 9-0. California suffered a 21-0 trouncing. El Rancho was the only SGVL team to score against the Buc Cees with the final tally 19-12. Coach Lindley's squad climaxed the year by clobbering Norwalk 40-0 and Excelsior 34-0 in its two final games. Altogether the Bucs racked up over 250 points and permitted their foes only 19 for the entire season. MR. LINDLEY MR. They are discussing the fate of Julie Fletcher, who is on trial for murder- ing her uncle. All of the Jurors are posi- tive that Julie is guilty and they vote that way, except one young lady, known to the Jurors as the actress, who votes not guilty. She tells them that she had a different impression of Julie, and she wants to reenact some of the scenes from Julie's life to get a real picture of what we're talking about. They play murder twice. The first time the actress does not feel capa- ble of murder and that Julie did not either. The second time, she did and even went through the motions of murdering the foreman of the Jury who, playing her uncle, still votes guilty, out of sheer stubbornness. At this time a young man on the Jury comes forward and through sharp detective work and more reenact- ment of scenes, with props, finally extracts a confession of the murder from one of the men on the Jury (Angry man). 196 Main Roles Actress—Jeon Thompson Yowng Mon—John George Angry Man—John Delonchaw Foreman—John Lands ran mmm The Grinch hates Christmas and thinks if there are no presents or Christmas trees he can stop it from coming so he goes to the home of the Whos to take away their decorations and presents.
