ADERS We ve Got The Beat Although many of the Jr High cheer- leaders have cheered for youth football, this was their first year to cheer for a high school team. There was a slight case of the jitters before their first game, but the squad performed ami- ably. The girls task was to get the bas- ketball team and the fans fired up, which they successfully achieved. Be- sides cheering at games, the squad also made spirit tags for the team to help create enthusiasm and recognition. Wm VPS 1 s- my A Great Recovery Although this year's boys track team was disappointed with their second place finish at the Bellevue Invita- tional, they managed to recover and finish with a successful season. With the help of seniors Hans Herklotz, who won the 1600, 800, and 400 meter events and Dave Witt, who won the discus the Tigers took first place at the regional meet. Tying for second at Conference, taking the runner-up spot at sectionals, and placing sixth in the state were oth- er fine finishes by the team. State medalist for the Tigers were Dave Witt who placed third in the dis- cus and Hans Herklotz, who placed fourth in the 1600 meter run, third in the 800 meter run and first in the 400 meter dash. The 800 meter relay team takes time out to practice their hand-offs. Todd Eagle puts the final touches on his long jump. Tom Schwierjohann, Dave Witt, and Kelly Knox take a breather between events.
