LOYS CROSS COUNTRY TEAM: First: D. Held, T. Hopper, J. Noe, M. laters D. Thom son. Second: M. Ho er R. Ro R. Johnson H. Herklotz y P PP 1 Eg, f , . Gibson, B. Owens, Coach Mayer. Short Of Runners With Coach Marty Mayer at the helm, the 1982-1983 cross country team seemed to possess everything necessary for a successful season. Coach Mayer was in his third year, and an accom- plished runner himself. There were also new uniforms, and among other things a junior high team for the first year. The Tigers seemed to possess everyth- ing, everything, that is, except a varsity team. Bellevue struggled through most of the season with only 4 varsity runners, with eighth grader Brandt Owens fill- ing in at the critical meets. Even so, the Tigers placed tenth out of a field of 33 teams and 225 runners from 4 states at the Lexington Catholic Invitational, with seniors Hans Herklotz and Rob Rogg taking 15th and 21st places re- spectively. Though this was the best team finish the Tigers could muster, two indivi- duals continually performed well. Rob Rogg and Hans Herklotz opened the season by taking 1st and 2nd places in the Silver Grove meet. Hans placed 3rd and Rob 10th at the Silver Grove Invi- tational, and the two again finished 1st and 2nd in the Highland meet. Although the team failed to qualify for the state championship meet, Hans Herklotz and Rob Rogg qualified as in- dividuals, and out of 150 of the best runners in the state, Hans placed 15th and Rob 29th. Hans Herklotz can't seem to shake this com- petitor. Boys Cross Country ' 69

Good Effort Although the 1982-1983 Girls Varsity basketball team may have posted a win- floss record which was somewhat less than impressive, the Lady Tigers ef- forts did not go entirely to waste. While Bellevue did suffer through 17 defeats, the girls also had their taste of victory, defeating Beechwood and Ludlow twice, along with wins over Silver Grove and Villa Madonna. The Tigers gave Dayton all they could handle in the District Tourna- ment, losing a hard fought game 63-55, with Karen Hurtt being named to the All District Tournament Team for her efforts. Karen Wartman finds Karen Hurtt open un- derneath. This Carolyn Wiedemann jump shot just clears the outstretched hand of a defender. Linda Schoulthies scores an easy two against Villa Madonna.
