Freshmen End Season Strongg Junior High Learns Sound Basketball Fundamentals With key player Steve Crittenden having been moved up to the reserve team just prior to the opening of the season, the freshman basketball team stumbled through an up and down year. After losing the first seven games of the campaign, the freshman Tigers showed marked improvement. Regular season ending wins over Beechwood and Walton-Verona sent the Tigers into the regional tournament with confidence. Riding high after these victories, Bellevue avenged an earlier loss by upsetting FLA. Jones 37-29 in the first round. A tough Conner squad then eliminated the hopeful Tigers from the tournament. Under the tutelage of Coach Ken Wendell, the junior high basketball team learned the basic principles of sound team basketball as they fought to a 6-9 record. Thrilling wins over conference foes Dayton, Beechwood, and Walton-Verona highlighted the short season. ' ftwwww 3 ,l l T V6 Cheerleading Expands As Two Underclassmen Squads Are Established From the summer practices of June until the basketball tournament in March, the varsity and reserve cheerleading squads dedicated themselves to bringing enthusiasm and excitement to the entire student body. Almost immediately after school let out for summer vacation, the cheerleaders began practicing to perfect their cheers and mounts. In their spare time, the cheerleaders raised money for new uniforms. Among the money-making projects were the sale of an all-purpose cleaner, a 24-hour rock-a-thon, and a Christmas candle sale. This year also marked the birth of the freshmen and junior high cheerleading squads.
