'El 45,4 I. y-A Rifle Club Interest in the Rifle Club never seems .to lag at Bellevue High, regardless of the many demands made upon the students' time and attention by other activities and part-time iobs. Every other Saturday morning finds an enthusiastic group of sharpshooters on hand in the gym for target practice. The Rifle Club, which is affiliated with the National Rifle Association, teaches safety in the use of firearms and tries to develop per- severance and attention to detail along with good marksmanship. A tournament is held each year for club members and awards are available for all those who meet the require- ments of a prescribed course. The inexperienced Tigers lost the opening game to Boone County 25 to 13 but came back to upset Holmes and Lloyd by scores of 13-7. The following week the Tigers lost a 35-7 decision to a tough Highlands team. After the Highlands loss, the Tigers settled down to a four game winning streak, beginning with' a defeat over stubborn Campbell County by a score of 13 to 12. The following week they shut out Newport 13-0 although most of the players were suffering from a flu epidemic. One week later the Tigers downed Ludlow 33-13 with the reserves seeing most of the action. The final win was the traditional Bellevue-Dayton game with the Tigers coming out on top 7-O. Bellevue finished the season by losing the final game to Dixie 33-O. The running attack was led by Ierry Dougherty and Don Fagaley. Bob Iones, Ierry Dougherty, Bill Hanson and Dennis Bradford were named on the NKAC team while Bob Iones was named on the A11-State third team. The six Seniors lost through graduation are Chris Christofield, Ierry Dougherty, Don Fagaley, Dave Graham, Don Hoop and Bob lones. After greetings from Mr. Cliff Tracy, Boosters president, Mr. Ben Flora, former coach and principal of Bellevue took over as toastmaster. The major address of the evening was brought by Mr. Ed Kennedy, well known Cincinnati sports announcer. Iackets were presented to the six Senior players- Ierry Dougherty, Chris Christofield, Don Hoop, Don Fagaley, Bob lones and Dave Graham, as Well as to the cheerleaders-Ianet Bass, Sandy Klein and Debby Petrey. Letters were presented to other players who qualified by participating in the required number of quarters. Coaches awards were presented to Bob lones as the most valuable player, to Don Fagaley as most ef- ficient back, to Bill Hanson as most efficient linesman and to Dennis Bradford for the best attitude. This group attempts to promote participation in sports by a larger number of boys. It undertakes one or more special projects each year and gives a dance to help raise funds for this activity. No year would ever be quite complete without the B Club vs. Faculty basketball game which is played after the close of the regular season. Baseball The l958 Baseball team started the season with victories over Simon Kenton, Silver Grove and Dayton. Due to injuries to the pitching staff, the team suffered several losses before recovering. Outstanding were Seniors Bob Iones and Chris Christofield and Bill Hanson, a Iunior. Coach McKenney and his Tigers are looking forward to the district tournament which will be played at Newport this year.
