ADMINISTRATION .uv To the Students of Bellevue School Koen lund Education in sale lxvlngcommencel long before school age andcon txnues throughout life We learn from both expenence and mstructxon and the mstructzon we recexve As based upon the experience of others lt has been saxdthat the tree of knowledge is watered by the tears of experience If you practxce safety rules long enough you will form habits of usmg them And the wonderful thmg xs that habxts make us learn tollke the thxngs we do For this reason see thatall ofyour hablts are good ones To the Students of Bellevue School Max L Tunnell Wath the launchmg of the Russian Sputmk the re has come about some very serious questxons about our own system of education Are we really behxnd the Russians xn our educational system? Should we really change our whole structure of educatxon to pattern after those of the Russxans or some other European system of education? Have we really faxled ln our Puhlxc Educatxon ln this country just because we faxled to successfully launch a man made moon before they dxd? Just because we faxled to outstrxp the Commumsts ln thxs partxcular area does that mean that our system ofpublxc free educatxon has failed? Before we answer the above queltxons honestly and faxrly we should review the alms of our own school system Is xt our malnaxm to produce scxentxsts ? II so we would do away wxthany choxce of the xndsvsdual as to what he or she would study We would at the same tune do away with the choxce of a vocatmon Make no mxstake about xt we do need more scientists But I beheve that we will be able to produce them in the free American way At any rate not all students can be scxentxlts or technicians 1-'uthermore Lt' they could he we would also need people wxth a well balanced education We need and otherwise partxclpate xn a democracy such as ours It xs well to remember that educatxon xs not a mere gaining of knowledge but puttxng knowledge to actnon Informed action as the goal of school education There fore the justxixable method of education is mtelllgence to plan and work for better lxvmg -an-Q Sponsored by BURGESS FUNERAL HOME B 81 B BUTANE B0w1e.
