On September 9, 1940, we entered the fourth grade with Mrs. Gladys George as our teacher. This year we gained only one new pupil, F. Shin- ault, who came about mid-term. This time everyone was promoted except Vilma Starnes. Therefore, our 1948 graduates were the same at the end of grade four as they were at the end of grade three with Cdiver, Jack, Billy, Flo Reba, Bernice, Bertie Sue and Nhurine. When school opened on September 8, 1941, we were not in the fifth grade but in the sixth with Miss Jessie Lee Spratt as our teacher. we skipped the fifth grade which was certainly a lucky break for us. This year we gained Chester Liggett who went only a short time, Wendell Mayo, Iola Swift, and Whnda Faye Gilson who came to us just before school was out. This time we lost Abb Miller, Jr., Lois Simons, Marvin Tyson, and Robert Nichols. Therefore, we have our same 1948 graduates: CHiver, Jack, Billy, Flo Reba, Bernice, Bertie Sue, and Maurine and Wendell. In September 1942. this lively group entered school as seventh graders, and it seems that their school record was lost for that parti- cular year. Their teachers were Miss Pat Chapman, and Miss Geneva Chens. And we do know that Oliver, Jack, Billy, Flo Reba, Bertie Sue, Maurine, and Wendell were in the seventh grade with many others whose names we were unable to find. Then when we entered the next September as seniors in grade school, we truly felt very smart and important. This time we gained several new pupils from Vashti, and of course, we were very glad to have them. These new pupils were Jeanetta Wood, Poppy Bell, Florine Loveall, Nadine Stallcup, Harold Berry, Jr. Langford, and Ann Howard. Our teachers this time were Mrs. Fairy Hankins and Miss Jewell Hoss. When eighth grade graduation came, we found that both places of honor were won by Vashti pupils. Nadine Stallcup was valedictorian, and Ann Howard was salutatorian. Chr graduation was very pretty, amd it completely assured us that we were certainly ready for high school. So our Seniors today who were eighth grade graduates are Oliver, Jack, Billy, Bertie Sue, Nhurine, Wendell, Poppy. Florine, cmd Flo Reba. And oh the joy of school's beginning the next September! Just im- aqine we were freshmen in high school! But when we entered and saw that we were only the little freshmen who were not to know anything a- about high school, we did not feel quite so important after all. There were thirty of us with the following instructors: Mr. W. M. Roberts was Superintendent, and our mathematics teacher: Mrs. Marie Grubbs was our English teacher, Mrs. Naomi Elmore was our science teacher, and Mrs.

-- -,r 1:-nflsmng-qua: nm HISTORY CF THE SENIOR CLASS OF 1948 Way back in the dark ages of September, 1937, began the school his- tory of the Bellevue Senior Class of 1948. On this early day in Sept- ember, 1937, the following little boys and girls were really up bright and early to be dressed in their prettiest togs , and to be enrolled on the first round of their educational tour: Glen I-hrrison, Abb Miller, Jr., Jack Moore, Philip McKee. Jim North, Marvin Tyson, Narvin Bruce Priddy, Billy Sweazea, Raymond Stracner, Flo Reba Dean, Naxine Munkers, Bernice Thompson, Dovie Wetsel, ln Rue Spears, and Miram North. So you see these included five of our graduates who are Jack. Billy, Raymond Bernice, and Flo Reba. Luckily we were all promoted. and my! how thrilled we were to get our report cards and be promoted to grade two. By the way, our first grade teacher was Miss Virginia Gaines. When school opened the next September in 1938, we entered as full- fledged second graders feel ing very superior, indeed, to the first graders. Upon being enrolled the first day, we found that we had lost La Rue Spears, and had gained the following: Kenneth Colvin. Oliver Gill Robert Nichols, Wayne Randolph. Barney Spikes, Marie Graham, Vilma Starnes, Nkxurine Wetsel, and Mildred Johnson. Mrs. Lela Mitchell was our second grade teacher. When school was out that year, a few class- mates were not promoted with us, who were: Philip McKee, Jim North, Marvin Bruce Priddy, Mxrie Graham, and Miram North. So here are our graduates today leaving grade two: Oliver, Jack, Billy, Raymond, Flo Reba, Bernice, and Maurine. Now just think a third grader! This certainly made us very anxious for September 11, 1939 to come. We entered school this year with Miss Mxurine Goodwin as our teacher. The new additions to our class this time included Lonnie Jo Allen, Cbrald Braggs, Lois Simons, Pbrshel Tay- lor, john Burton Gill. Gene Gore, Luther Coker, Evelyn Mitchell, Bertie Sue Wetsel, Wyneth Lee Wetsel, and Manell May. Now this time we were all promoted except Gerald Braggs, Kenneth Colvin, Mildred Johnson, and Mzxine Munkres. However, Wyneth lee Wetsel attended school only a short time. So at the end of the third year in school we find the following 1948 graduates: Oliver, Jack, Billy. Flo Reba, Bernice, Bertie Sue, and Nhurine.

Lela Mitchell was our history teacher. Our seniors in the freshman class were: Oliver, Wendell, Jack, Billy, Raymond, Poppy, Flo Reba, Florine, Bettie, Naurine, and Bertie Sue. We had much fun, and thought that we were very clever in putting so many things by the teachers. And the sophomore year! Thank goodness! We were no longer fresh- men. This year we had Mr. R. W. Sweeney, Mr. J. F. Harper, Mr. R. A. Burk, and Mr. Lee Alexander. Mr. Alexander left before school was out and Mr. T. J. Roper took his place. We had many activities and much fun during our sophomore year. Our seniors who were sophomores are: Oliver, Wendell, Jack, Billy, Poppy, Flo Reba, Florine, Bettie, Ruby, Bernice, Bertie Sue. and Maurine. And then juniors! C11 what a thrill! We were juniors with the follow- ing enrollment: Lonnie Joe Allen, Harold Brown, Cecil Coker, Oliver Gill, Chester Liggett, Wendell Mayo, Jack Moore, Raymond Stracner, Billy Sweazea, Poppy Bell, Flo Reba Dean, Ann Howard, Florine Loveall, Bettie Rater, Ruby Reaves, Bernice Thompson, Betty Jo Walker, Christine Wells, Bertie Sue Wetsel, Naurine Wetsel, :Ieanetta Wood, Ima Jean Vann, Evelyn Mitchell and Chita Evans. Harold, Lonnie Joe. Cecil, Chester, Ann, Christine, Ieanetta, and Evelyn withdrew before we completed our junior year. Our teachers were Mr. Lee Powell, Mrs. Leo Reaves, Mr. Ancel Newman, and Mrs. Frank Brown. Mrs. Brown was our sponsor, we thought that we were very successful with our play, Dotty and Daffy , and also with our banquet in Wichita Falls. When we entered as seniors, there were sixteen of us, L. D. Barnett. who came from Seymour, Oliver Gill, Wendell Mayo, Jack Moore, Raymond Stracner, Billy Sweazea, Poppy Bell, Flo Reba Dean. Onita Evans, Bettie Rater, Ruby Reaves, Bernice Thompson, Betty Io Walker, Bertie Sue Wet- sel, Florine Loveall, and Nnurine Wetsel. Betty ,Io Walker went only a few months: therefore, we were left with our fifteen graduates. We had a lot of fun presenting The Daffy Dills and In Again, Out Again. And then we felt that our sponsoring the annual was certainly a brave undertaking. Our teachers as seniors were Mr. Lee Powell. Mr. W. M. Roberts, Mrs. Leo Reaves, Miss Betsy Ball, Mrs. Frank Brown. Again Mrs. Brown was our sponsor. ' Our school life was a pleasure. and also a burden too. Many days were enjoyable ones, and many days were trying ones. So you see jack, Billy, and Flo Reba were our only graduates who began in the first grade together and completed their school life in this school.
